Cap 1 credit steps question

All-

In December I received a pre-approval offer from Cap1 (for the 6th month in a row) and decided, this time, to accept it.  At the time, my EQ was 595, and they gave me an unsecured $300 line, with credit steps to $500 after 7 statements.

I have since become a member here; where I have learned a ton, and was able to remove a baddie, been able to GW an installment CO to fully paid, never late.  I still have 2 baddies (Paid judgement, from 2007, due to fall off in July) and Foreclosure (due to fall of September 2015).  My most recent late is from Orchard Bank CC 4.3 years ago (working on GW for that one too, so I guess technically I have 3 baddies).  All 3 scores, as of 3/14 are now 672EX 693EQ 724 TU.

My Question:  Should I call the EO line and see if I can get a CLI, or will I have to wait out the credit steps?  I've gone from $1300 available credit in December, after getting the Cap1, to $19,800 in March.  Advice?  Thanks in Advance!

I dont think you can get a CLI until you complete the first part of the credit steps from the EO, you might have to wait till after the first step up.

Re: Cap 1 credit steps question

ok.. that's what i was afraid of, but if that's the case then cool.  I don't need the CLI, just don't like having such a low limit that I pay off about once a week, lol.

I'm not sure if this information will help you, but I was in a similar situation. Got my Cap One cards in December, and both were in credit steps. I did contact the EO about an increase a few weeks ago, and they were willing to do a manual review. They did not give me a CLI on either card, and their reason was that I had received too much new credit since opening their cards in December. Even though my credit improved dramatically since opening the cards, they were unwilling to look past the new credit. Since it sounds like you also received a lot of new credit since opening the card, they might tell you the same thing. Of course, your results may be different so don't be afraid to try.
