Morning yall,
Q: C1 was my first card 18+ years ago.. didn't do business with them for about ten years.. never defaulted and still have a HYSA account from same frame w them, then I got a pre approval for the "good" credit QS and got a slam dunk 14k CL. My six statement is coming up and I've run the card up to 50-70% cl (didn't affect total utilization much tbh) and PIF and I didn't get an auto CLI, but C1 is NOTORIOUS for sticking people with their SL no matter what the situation..
so since I didn't get an auto cli at 3/4 months.. if I do end up being eligible for a cli, should it appear automatically on the 6th statement, 7th statement.. or do I need to request it online something there in between? I have pushed close to 40k through this card and PIF. I'm thinking about trying a cash advance and then paying it off a couple days later just to see how it gets applied (if they follow the law and maybe if that helps.. I have made the card mostly my daily go to).
Any request I've made online so far for a CLI has been denied due to "account too new".. I know 14k is a tremendous starting line with C1, but if it won't grow, I want out. Not unlike Cap One, they have pre approved me for several other cards when I check the pre approval. But I can't open any new accounts. I might end up PC'ing to "Savor One". I spend so much money on food its outrageous. Can barely get lunch for $20 these days around these parts.
P.S. my score has either stayed the same or gone up. I've opened one or two cards since including a stupid pre approve brightway+ card with no af 1% cash back and $3k SL (bad mistake!!!)
thanks!
I would wait until after the 6th statement and then Request a CLI.

You "want out" if your $14,000 CREDIT LIMIT that you only got a few months ago won't grow? Some people don't realize how fortunate they are smh.
You have a number of CC with lower CL in your signature. I'd ride this out for at least a couple more months before requesting a CLI.
@MikeyMagic It's not luck btw or just being "fortunate" Ive clawed my way with no help from anyone; it took me 5 years to even get a 2k CL. many of my friends whose parents paid for everything and added them to their AU accounts had perfect credit before i could even open a card.
there's a story behind "wanting out" which is that I had a cap one card that stopped growing in 2008 and got stuck at a 1700 CL for SEVEN YEARS while I had built up all my other credit lines.
I say that because Cap One, in the past, has been notorious for never increasing some credit lines. It's a business relationship. I don't want to get stuck with a card that I've been using singularly and PIF that doesn't result in at least a little reward. As stated, I've pushed 40k through the card. I have 18 years of history with them of NEVER defaulting and also an 18 year old HYSA that I've ALWAYS had $ in.
even if they increased it to 14,500, Id be satisfied :-) They delayed my credit growth and development because I hoped and hoped and HOPED for SEVEN YEARS they would reward me. I don't want to repeat that.
PS: my siggy is way out of date
@MikeyMagicI just read your reply, and I agree 100 percent you and I have a similar story. Almost the same amount of time being with them, I would need to check, but around 18 years or so. I am not sure why they won't budge when I am, and I am sure you are holding cards with 5x or more times than our crappy cap one limits. I think mine is around 6K or something. I do not use it often, but I have a monthly sub on it, like Netflix or something, just to have something reporting at times and paid at the end of the month each month for many years. So my question to you since this post is, have you been able to get your credit limit higher, and If so, did you do a CLI over the phone, the app, or online, and was it a soft pull or hard? Any other data points would be appreciated. Thanks.
I will also move this to a post so I can get others' thoughts as well.
What is wrong with wanted a high credit limits, you need to work for them if you have the payment record and income and money then nothing wrong saying high limit don't hate. I have 305K total limits and have card with 25K and more limits and if bank does take care of me like increases limits or crediting my account right away I just move on and put the card in the sock draw.
My VentureX they approve my CLI request exactly every 3 months just like clockwork so far. Less than 3 months they deny it.
