Last time I did, I called the # back of the card. Told the front CSR that I'm interested in upgrading my card. I was forwarded to another department (sorry can't remember). She told me that I 'qualify' for the upgrade, but she also told me about the forefitting of the anniversary portion of the CB. I waited 'til anniversary. When I called them back, exactly the same (warning of forefitting), but I told the back CSR that I'm already aware of that. And, upgrade was complete. Maybe calling EO helps in your case.

I didn't have a 5,000 dollar card, but I still qualified and was accepted for their "excellent" credit cards. All of my cards were over 3 years though (youngest was 5 years). However, one of those cards had a decent limit at 3.5k
I have the green cashback 1% + .5 anniversray and it's a world mastercard fyi
well 1 "Modify Rewards" checkup and a chat later, was given the regular 800 on back of card to contact about upgrading from cash rewards to quick silver.
I'll update after my partner calls but I assume already a presidents office email will be needed to basically switch for the same product!
