Cap One - Upgrade or wait...

Background... Cap One Platinum SL$3000 & No AF. Balance $550. Opened 12/2017 and have made 3 payments.  Don't know much abouts the steps Cap One thing... Afraid to request a CLI now.  Would that impact the steps program?

What about an upgrade? Offers are QS, same CL, and no AF, adds 1.5% cashback - or Venture One, same CL, no AF, and 1.25 miles per dollar.

Should I leave it alone and let it mature through the steps for an auto CLI before making any changes???

Thanks

It doesn’t seem like you are in the steps program if your sl was 3000.  I would pc it to whichever one you like the rewards from.  But you should be able to ask for a cli it doesn’t hurt you if declined.

Re: Cap One - Upgrade or wait...

Definitely got the "you'll get a credit line increase after 5 payments" notice with the card (mail preapproval) last year...  Is that the steps program I have read about?

Re: Cap One - Upgrade or wait...

I think that they just give you cli at 5 months.  I got the platinum with I believe a 2000 sl and the same 5 month cli but hit the luv button I think at 3 months and got 300 and then an auto increase at month 5 for 1000.  Then checked the pc page and PC’d to the QS. But from what I read on these forums you should go for the cli before product changing a card

Re: Cap One - Upgrade or wait...

It doesn't matter if you CLI before or after. Also, unless you plan to use hotels.com to book your hotels, there's no reason to own a VentureOne card. Cash reward when redeeming is equivalent is 1.25% if used for travel, like 0.85% for a gift card, or 0.625% for anything else. If you use hotels.com, that's 10%. Versus the Quicksilver's 1.5% flat.

Re: Cap One - Upgrade or wait...

Great afternoon!! I was Talking to a Cap 1 rep yesterday. I was trying to upgrade my QS1 to QS, he told me to call back in January  2019 since I already paid the $39 annual fee when I got the card Feb 18. he said it would be an easy upgrade, just keep paying off your card every month like you have been already doing. I can't wait to upgrade. this Credit stuff is awesome Smiley Happy

Re: Cap One - Upgrade or wait...

I would request a cli now before credit steps auto increase is applied. Once the auto increase is applied by credit steps, you cannot get a cli for 6 months.
I am also in the credit steps program. I requested a cli last night and was approved and my credit steps will be complete on august 2nd of this year
