Cap One...to combine or not?

I currently have a Cap One card that has a CL of $3550. I just received another account that only has $500 CL. Should I try to combine these or should I try for a higher CL on the new one?

Is your new one on credit steps? If so, I would wait until you get your CLI (s)

Re: Cap One...to combine or not?

I combined mine about 6 months after I got the 3500 with my 600 card and got to use the old date.  Looking back on it I'm not sure I would do it again.  But I did just get a 1000 cli. no hard inq.  Really your call. I only did it because it was my oldest card.

That being said why would you take a new card with such a low limit instead of a cli on the 3500 card?

I didn't know it was $500 until it arrived.

Re: Cap One...to combine or not?

I decided to activate the card and then I will try to get some CLI's because this card has 0% interest for 1 year.

I've been considering applying for a second card. Now that I think about it, I don't recall seeing when or how Capital One now informs people about what their credit limit is for their new card.

Was your application by mail or online ?

If the application is done online, does Capital One tell the customer right away online what the credit limit is ?

Sorry, OP, please excuse a minor threadjack here:

Mojave, I saw your post on the other forum about Firefox abilities. If you want to quote the post you're replying to, click reply on that actual post (not up at the top of the thread), and when the box pops up, click "quote post" at the upper right of the box.

That will bring it up, and you can edit out whatever you don't want to quote, just as I removed the edited message when I quoted yours.

OK, sorry, back to the regular programming. Smiley Happy

Re: Cap One...to combine or not?

I applied for a Cap1 card online last week and it gave me my CL right away.  I haven't gotten the card yet.

Re: Cap One...to combine or not?

My DW and myself just went through this with Cap 1. I went for the combination, they reviewed both cards and gave me the good and bad for each and which one would be my "better" choice. I took the lower APR and no annual fee and combined. my DW got 2 CLI's on the spot (1000 and 750 respectively) and talked about the combination as well. The CSR ran it down and advised her that her one card (from years ago) had a 7.9 APR and that would be the one to stick with. Then went on to say that Cap 1 has a 90 day restriction on these types of activities and strongly suggested that she not combine and wait 90 days and renegotiate then. She took the advice and marked on the calendar to revisit.
