Cap1 CLI - Am I doing it wrong?

I have a Cap1 Platinum that I've had for five months. CL is $3k and I pay in full each month. I want to request a CLI - Is the "request a credit line increase" link the "love button" I keep hearing about? Is this a soft pull?

When I did that, it asked how much I spend on all cards monthly, how much I will spend on this card, AND my desired credit line. What do I say?

My scores have gone from @650 to @700 since I opened the card, income is over $100k, total monthly payment due on all accounts is small (no mortgage, no car loan).

I think most reads on here will say wait til month 6...and for the questions, I've simply answered them honestly in the past; not sure there is a magic answer.  Cap1 has not been as generous with CLIs as other have been so your mileage may vary on this one.

Re: Cap1 CLI - Am I doing it wrong?

Honestly, the most I'll spend on this card on a regular basis is $1-2k. But if I say that, I suspect they will deny my request.

I want the increase so that when I put $2k on the card, my utilization isn't 66%

I believe if you use the app it doesn't ask those questions.

Re: Cap1 CLI - Am I doing it wrong?

3k limit on Platinum could very well be near/at its ceiling already. If no CLI after full 6 months?  maybe ask for Product Change to different card with higher growth potential, like QS, Venture or Savor.

Based on my experience and some of what I have read here, you may want to check the pre-qualification and see if they want you to take the QS card. They really seem to want that $39/yr. And something about buckets...

Re: Cap1 CLI - Am I doing it wrong?

My converted QS was originally a secured plat, only had one increase with credit steps from 200 to 500 in Oct. 17 & an auto increase of $1000 in June 2018.

I just requested an increase after 6 months & offered $150 which I declined. I think I'll wait until next statement to request again. I was asked how much spend I put on my cards & I left that part blank it was optional btw. I wonder if that's part of the reason for the low offer?

Re: Cap1 CLI - Am I doing it wrong?

I have a strong feeling that question is just a placebo. (Like the button at the crosswalk). Cap1 soft pulls you plus they have all your spending data. The system has a number for you already.

Combined with the fact that depending on how you access the CLI you may it even get asked that question and it’s optional anyway, I doubt it plays any roll in the amount you get.

Re: Cap1 CLI - Am I doing it wrong?

After some more thought, I think I'll take the $150 increase (as small as it is) because idk when it might still be available. It might not be there in the next month or 2 or if any increase at all & every little bit helps. Also I'm in the process of paying down balances on my 2 cards for the next 2 months besides a couple of recurring charges I have.

Besides my card is bucketed so I shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth when it comes to cap one & I'll just try for another increase in 6 mos when my spending becomes flexible again, as I know cap one loves big spend/payments. Hopefully I can get a decent increase from them in September-October. If I can get this card to at least $3,000 before it gets capped I consider that a small victory.
