I opened a Cap1 Journey Visa in 11/11, a few months after closing 2 of their $500CL toy cards. I started with a $1000CL, and their Credit Steps program bumped me up to $1500 after 6 months. It is my most frequently used card after my Zync, and the only card I carry a balance on. Suffice it to say I make regular (weekly) payments, always equaling at least 4X the minimum.
Today I had an online chat with a Cap1 rep, asking if my card would get the elusive 2nd bump under the Credit Steps program. He didn't address the Credit Steps part of the question at all, but took my info and offered to 'look into' a possible CLI. He said that an increase wouldn't be available now, but Cap1 does periodic reviews, blah blah. Then, however, he said that 'only for me' he would insert a 'note' in my file, so that during the next random review I might get a CLI. The rep said the note was 'vital'. Did I crack some sort of Cap1 code here? I have heard that Cap1 has 3 'tiers' for their CLs; 200-1000, 1000-3500, and 3500+. Any thoughts? I'd really like a Venture card, and I know non-Signature versions exist...
Probably doesn't mean anything. Capital One CLIs and approvals are 98% computer generated.

I think the only thing you cracked here is not to close 2 CrapCap1 to then open another CrapCap1!
AND I say this as someone that has gone back to cap1 at least 5 different times now~! and currently eyeing the little business cash card!

I call Cap1 about every three months to ask for a CLI. Last time I just used the online chat feature and the rep told me the same exact thing. Maybe it means something or maybe it's just the new line of crap that they are feeding to their customers. I guess only time will tell.
I wouldn't count on any CLIs from calling them, they just don't do customer initiated CLIs on the majority of their cards.
For some reason I just see a cap1 CSR on the other side of that chat, laughing to himself going "Haha, this person fell for my trick. As if I would actually put a "note" on their account for a CLI, MWAHAHAHA"
Lol, I hope it works, that would be cool, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Very predictable and almost all equivelent like gears two through six on a manual shifter.

2nd gear can be fantastic; if you have a rotory motor in your car.
I used to ignore the RedLine on the tach my old RX-7 had. I knew it was time to shift, around 30 seconds after the neddle was pegged.
haha i talked to the online chat people and they said let me check for a cli ooo no we could not give you one they said no hp or sp we will send a letter in the mail.. well i got the letter they said my account is not eligable for a cli i had the card for 5 years started at 300 then to 500 and then after two years they bumped it to 1500. i think my wife has the same kind of card we got the cli at the same time so i think its computer based due to the face we got the rasies at the same exact time within days of each other. soo i closed my card i can't see paying 39 a year for nothing the only thing they said they could do was reduce my apr 5% for 6 months i was like"Mod Edit" guys close it i am going to close my dw card here soon i have much much better cards

Cant tell you how many letters ive gotten from CAP1 stating the only reason for denial was b/c cli are not availale at this time......on a side note: ive been callin them once a week for the last 2 months requesting a CLI just to bug the crap out of them and to keep making them pay postage fees for sending me their ridiculous denial letters
