Cap1 CLI now SP?

Just got out of a chat with Cap1 and they informed me that a CLI request is soft pull only. I thought they were 100% HP before; maybe they are finally starting to like their customers a little more Smiley Tongue

I'd take that with a mountain of salt! Cap 1 CSRs are notoriously known for giving erroneous and conflicting information. I speak from personal experience, in addition to the numerous posts of others' experiences.

Re: Cap1 CLI now SP?

It's true. They would 3 CRA HP for CLI back a few months ago. My recent (last week) CLI request was a SP. Of course it was denied as usual - but SP nonetheless.

AMEX BCP $35k | Citi Double Cash $30k | PenFed PlatRewards $25k | Barclaycard $40k | Chase Freedom $25k | BofA Cash Rewards $40K | US Bank Cash+ $4500 | Discover IT $25k | NASA Platinum-Advantage $40k | CapOne Quicksilver $15k | Amazon Card $10k | Ten years on myFICO from 510 to 780 scores

I was thinking the same exact thing! Thats why I was a little shocked when they told me. I saved the chat so if it did end up being a HP they would remove it since I was told otherwise.

Re: Cap1 CLI now SP?

As far as I know, Capital One's CLI have always been SP.

I know that I've never in my 5 years of business with them had a HP for a CLI, but that might have changed for a brief period.

They may have different requirements for different cards? I started with a builder and was upgraded to the Cash card. It was a HP when I requested a CLI back in January. IDK.... Cap1 is rather strange.

Re: Cap1 CLI now SP?

I think they have always been SP since I have requested CLI on my card since I've had it now for 4 years and never got a HP. Of course I have always been denied a CLI but that's another story in itself.

Re: Cap1 CLI now SP?

What builder did you get? I was looking to move my builder up to Cash Rewards but I heard they will not do it without a HP?

I have the regular platinum with no rewards but an APR around 9.69 % I beleive, I have to check it.

I wanted to get the Green cash reward but was told on numerous occasions that it cannot be PC'ed.

Looks like what you said is technically correct, but I'd love to hear from anyone who actually got the increase with the soft pull.  Looks like I'll be calling backdoor recon soon.  Here's how my "chat" went:

Hi and welcome to our Capital One chat service! One of our Account Specialists will be right with you. Your chat may be monitored and recorded.

You are now chatting with Ruben

Ruben: Thank you for visiting Capital One. I'd be happy to help you with your account questions. Whom do I have the pleasure of chatting with today?
you: This is P
Ruben: Hello P.
Ruben: How may I assist you today?
you: I understand that Capital One is able to consider requests for credit limit increases with a soft pull, not resulting in a hard inquiry on credit report. Is this true?
Ruben: Yes, you are correct.
you: I would like to request a credit limit increase on my account ending in ****.
Ruben: Sure.
Ruben: Let me explain you about that.
Ruben: At unspecified times throughout the year, we periodically review accounts.
Ruben: Various factors, including keeping your account in good standing, are taken into account during this review.
Ruben: If you are approved for this increase, you will see it on your statement.
Ruben: However, if you wish I can go ahead and make a request for the credit limit increase in your account.
you: Great, please do make the request. Thanks.
Ruben: Let me pull up the account and check that for you.
Ruben: In order to access your account, please provide your name (exactly as it appears on your credit card), zip code, date of birth and last four digits of your Social Security number.
you: P ********
Ruben: I'd be happy to submit the request for a credit limit increase for you.
Ruben: One moment please while I review your account.
you: Thanks, standing by.
Ruben: You're welcome.
Ruben: P, I have submitted the request however your account is not eligible for a customer-initiated increase for today. Although we do not have an offer at this time, this does not mean that an offer may not become available in the future. We always try to find the best for our customers and I do know our company does a great job proactively reviewing accounts for better offers.
Ruben: You will receive a letter confirming this decision with the specific reason for this determination within 7-10 business days. Please continue to watch your statements to see if you are granted an approval through our reviews.
you: Thanks
Ruben: You're welcome.
Ruben: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
you: thats it, thanks
Ruben: You're welcome.
Ruben: If you need any assistance in future, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Ruben: Take care.
Ruben: Bye.
