Cap1 Hates Me

Don't now who I ticked off, but I just don't know what to do anymore.  Had a charged off Cap1 account that was settled with a collection agency and Cap1 (via an agreement with the CA) issued me a new CC upon payoff with a $200 limit.  I received one  $300 CLI and that was two years ago. I have had the card for four years. Reading the boards here I called the backdoor numbers too many times to count for a CLI and have always been told no offers are available. Recently I have been pushy and still ... NADA.  I have one 30 day late and that was due to my purse being stolen.  A new card had to be issued and I had to close and open a new checking account. Cap1 has that noted and advised me would not effect my history since I was not able to make a payment as scheduled.

The only "help" the Sr. Account supervisors could give me was to open a new account. All the backdoor reps were even confused as to why no increases and no promos available.  I then asked about Credit Steps and was told that was only offered to new account holders ... so open a new card. One supervisor even went as far to tell me Cap1 hardly declines anyone. Well... lo and behold here I come.

Received a decline letter from Cap1 yesterday stating they could not approve my request for a new card because there are too many delinquent past or present Capital One credit obligation(s). I am totally stunned and amazed.  The charge off was PIF and is due to fall off in Dec of this year.  THEY issued me a new card when it was paid off. I only have the above mentioned late in four years of payment history. I thought they pulled a report from an agency, but the letter states "...the decision was based stictly on a review  of application information according to our credit guidelines. We did not request a copy of your credit file and therefore no inquiry will be placed  on your credit report."

I don't even know how to go about contacting regarding this or what to say.  Does anyone have any suggestions (other than burn or sock drawer the card)?

I would find another company to work with-

It does not sound like Capone is going to grow with you-

Haze, sorry it happened to you. Smiley Sad If I were you, I'd totally forget about Cap1 for the remainder of 2008. Try them again about this time next year. They've sent you a clear message that you are out of their good graces.....for now. (just my opinion)

Re: Cap1 Hates Me

I agree with both of you.  Was trying to find some light at the end of the tunnel because they are the first company to grant me credit when I began having trouble.  Now THEY are giving me trouble.  The weird thing is when I pull EQ it shows Cap1 as being my oldest creditor with a date of NA (it's the chargeoff account from 2000).  I have had credit cards since 85, however EQ doesn't reflect them. I would close but don't want to lose the history.  It seems they have me coming and going.

Edit to add: I have a Orchard Bank Gold (they stink to work with too), HSBC, DMB Discover and Target.  No one else will have me (my scores are 640 all the way around).  By reading this forum, looks like I will have the same problems with too - no growth.

It sounds as though you are in the repair/rebuilding stage.

Keeping the cc's you have squeaky clean, and time time time will help....a lot.

Re: Cap1 Hates Me

You are correct.  My little brain thought that with four years of good solid history I would be better off. However, this board has shown me that just one late will kill your scores and your chances of obtaining new credit. Been through alot to get me in the position so I know it won't change overnight ... but geesh I am thinking to myself ;somebody give me a break).

I wouldn't care as much if the reps at Cap1 who have taken my calls weren't as confused (or more) than me.  The other cards won't budge with AF or limits either because they KNOW you need them. That is what is so humbling about all of this. I do what I am supposed to do, go to them begging and crying, and still nothing.

It is all a game - I will keep playing until I even the score ... or get better FICO scores Smiley Very Happy

Re: Cap1 Hates Me

Have you tried applying for a different Capital One card?  I know that there have been more offers for me on my newer Capital One rather than the older one I have.
