Cap1 Restricted Plat MC - Thoughts?

I'm hoping anyone on here can give me some guidance on a Cap1 Plat MC that I have, in restricted status, $300 SL.  I opened this card in Oct 2014, and it is my oldest CC TL.  I fell behind on payments (my stupidity for not setting up autopay) and the card landed in restricted status.  I paid the balance in full, roughly $40, in 2016 and was told the card would return to unrestricted status after three months.  So the card is at $0 balance.  It is still reporting monthly in good standing, with exception to the baddie lates on that account.  The card never did go back to unrestricted status like the CSR said and I just left it alone.  When I began rebuilding and found these forums, I called Cap1 back again to see what I could do.  That CSR said it would always stay in restricted status but I could app again for another card.  I did and approved $1k SL.  That CSR also said after 6 months in credit steps, the new card would bump an additional $500 and I could also call back to see about combining the cards, making the new card $1800.  I log in my cap1 account daily and about once a month I test to see if an account combination is possible.  It is not yet, but I'm not surprised bc my new Cap1 (originally Plat MC, PCd to QS) is not yet 6 months old.

All that backstory to get to my question.  Does anyone have a similar experiece with a restricted card?  My old card is expired, no new card ever came (obviously expected that to happen).  Does Cap1 ever unrestrict an account like this?  Everything I have seen on searching the forums is that Cap 1 restrcted = closed.  My account is still very much open and monthly reporting in good standing.  I don't have an annual fee on the card, so always $0 bal with no option to use the account anyway.  I very much hesitate to close the card, as it is my oldest CC on my credit reports.  Is there anything I should/can do with this or leave it alone?  Since the first CSR did not follow through and unrestrict the card when she said it would, I am hesitant to believe the second CSR that the account can be combined on my new card after it reaches 6 mo old.

Hopefully someone who has had something like us will chime in!  I don't want to close it since it is my oldest.  But I can't use it so its just hanging out on my report.

Re: Cap1 Restricted Plat MC - Thoughts?

The account is closed.  The best you can do is let it sit giving your oldest acct status.  Close it, you cannot use it anyway.  Cap 1 computers are set to hold your information forever regardless of status.  It helps with their numbers.

This happened to me on my last Capital One card back in 2012. It’s done; you can never use it again though you can leave it open if you want it to report for the purposes of aging your report. I closed mine and decided never to deal with Capital One again. One of my better credit decisions, personally.

Consider it a lesson and move on.
