Cap1 and Balance Transfers

So now that I have a huge 0% limit to really kick my payoff into high gear, I'm trying to think of the best way to go about it without ticking off existing cards.

Barclay's I know is sensitive to balance transfers away from them...  So here's my thought.  Cap 1 will do a balance transfer for a $0 transaction fee and send me a check to deposit in my account, and then I can use "my" money to PIF Barclay.  Then I can take the Cap1 balance and transfer that to NFCU at 0%.

The question is... how sensitive is Cap1 to balance transfers away from them?  They are my second highest limit card, and don't really want to irritate them.  On the other hand, $3,000 at 23% is a lot of interest vs $3,000 at 0%!

Think this is a relatively safe plan?

Capital One is the least sensitive bank out there. As long as you pay your bills on time they let you do what you want. That is one of the reasons I love them.

While Barclays is known to be 'sensitive' I can tell you that I've done many balance transfers 'away from them' and they haven't said boo.  I have been reading about how sensitive Barclays is ever since I joined this forum a year and a half ago, but they've never actually given me a problem with any of my existing accounts, and I've had quite a few. I think when Barclays takes adverse action against someone for a dumb reason, it's usually because there's something else going on that's triggering their fabled 'sensitivity'.....  Of course my opinion could change tomorrow if they start messing with me Smiley Happy

I think your plan is very safe, but I think you're making too much work for yourself. If it were me, I would just do balance transfers from Barclays and Capital One to NFCU and be done with it.

You know, I have actually had that same thought from time to time.  When I first got my Barclay card, I also apped for and got another 3 cards over the following month, and they did anything.  BUT, I figure there's no point poking them in the eye unnecessarily!

I must confess, occasionally I think of calling them and asking for something, but then I think better of it, not wanting to get on their radar unnecessarily (you call it 'poking them in the eye' Smiley Happy)
