Cap1 convience checks

Can you use the Cap1 convience checks for mortgage and auto payments so you can use these payments for reward cards?

Re: Cap1 convience checks

As far as I know you can?  You can write it to (anyone) so I would imagine you could... I only ever wrote them to my bank account for money which is one of the dumbest things I have done with my Cap 1

Re: Cap1 convience checks

Let me tell you something about the Cap 1 Convenience check.
My friend used it once,
and still resolving the problem it has caused her.

Chase (merchant's bank) returned the check.
The reason: Insufficient fund!
My friend called Capital One.
Capital One said they paid.
Despite all the evidences
the capital one still maintains it paid the check.

Now my friend is being chased by 2.
Chase and Capital One.
Now, my friend, is thinking of going to court.

To make Chase and Capital one
compare their notes!

Countless telephone calls.
Countless denials.
Countless papers.
Time and energy.
Wasted.

Beware!

Re: Cap1 convience checks

What a horror story Trying. Sorry it happened to your friend, and hope she/he gets it resolved.

I don't use convenience checks at all. They scare me. Just as atm cards do. You make a strong argument of the dangers of using them.

I destroy those checks every month! They are trying to get me to take the bait! They want me to use those checks to go right up to my cl...I will never, ever use them...I wish there was a way to make them stop sending them to me, it drives me nuts to see them every month!

I know of another member who successfully asked Chase, not Capital One, to stop mailing and/or attaching convenience checks to monthly statements.  You can contact Capital One's customer service department and ask if they could do the same.

Re: Cap1 convience checks

I've never used those checks, either. That's not to say we haven't considered such things. Back when we were fairly ignorant of cc and dh was still in school our finances were especially tight, and they were tempting offers. Fortunately, we never got around to using them. Now we don't even consider them. Straight to the shredder they go.

Re: Cap1 convience checks

Cap1 convience checks seem to be the only decent ones I get-

All of the other ones have fees- I have used these a few times-
Written to myself and deposited to my bank-
It is treated like a purchase-

Their other checks are BT checks- that have a lower APR but have a fee.

The last one I used was to cap off her IRA for the year- and PIF when the bill came-

My Advice is - you can use these to assist in cash flow-
but don't send them to creditors-
