I've had a 6 month one sided relationship with Cap1 now. Hundreds of swipes for thousands of dollars, high income, and an 80 to 90 point score increase. Hit the luv button on a card I've had for 3 month, $100 for a $400 limit. Steps on the card I've had for 6 months, I'm told it'll be a $100 increase to a $500 limit by their CSR... Awesome. I want to love them, they were the first company to believe in me, but they really do stomp you into that bucket.

Thoughts on combining them? I've heard that closing your oldest revolving account is a big no no and that's the only eligible to be closed. It's also the no AF card of the two. At this point I don't even know what to do with them and I'm sure the ceiling on my cards is low. They're both currently SD. I suppose there's no rush but I'm annoyed and the $200 I'd miss by combining isn't gonna a make or break my profile.

Have you actually gotten your 6 months increase on card #1 or just been told that it will be $100? What was the original credit limit on card #1? Have you had any increase on card #1 before 6 months?

Re: Cap1 hates me

I haven't, it started at $300 CLI to $400, steps should hit soon but I've only been told by CSR that it's only going to $500 total CL

I think that's incorrect, I think you will go $750, that's what happened to me.

@Correct @Anonymous. I believe that's the standard line they tell you per the email as well that it wil be $500. But if you have used and abused it per your post OP it should be $750 and then 5-6 statements after an extra grand to $1,750. As always YMMW but that has been the common theme and my experience as well with my 2 test models.

Re: Cap1 hates me

$750 I can live with, especially with a bigger jump in a few months. I guess we will see what happens. I'll update when everything comes through. Thanks for the input!

Re: Cap1 hates me

When I got my original Cap 1 platinum I had a $300 limit. Used and abused it for 6 months got the auto CLI to $750. 6 months after that they bumped it to $2750. This was a couple years ago before I got serious about this rebuilding thing. Hoping to do the same(or similar) with the QuicksilverOne I just got.

$300 to $400 is a standard CLI Captial One can give out before the credit steps kicks in. Never seen anyone get more than that on the pre-Credit Steps CLI.

You just need to be patient with them, and keep swiping the hell out of that card. With heavy usage (and multiple pay downs per month), my mom's credit steps went from $500  to $3,500, which is one of the largest jumps I've seen. After that, you're on the 6 month CLI train, and will be able to obtain substantial CLI's as long as your usage of the card supports it.
