Hello, I have a Cap1(Formerly Orchard Bank) Platinum Mastercard with a $49 annual fee that I would like to upgrade. Do I have to upgrade to another Mastercard in order to keep my credit history or can I try for a Quicksilver Visa and still be ok(My credit score is in the 740 range now, as opposed to the mid 300's when I first got it.)? Also, what is the best strategy to get an upgrade?
Thanks,
Bret

In order to keep your history you have to upgrade the card. If you apply for the Visa it will report as new account with 0 history. You can ask for the card to be upgraded to the Quicksilver MC with no AF. Try asking for the upgrade via chat, if it doesn't work contact the EO.
Thanks for the info Jace. How would I go about contacting the Cap1 EO?
Google "capital one executive office email" should be the first link that pops up.
Awesome, thanks for the help!

Definitely try chat before EO. That's how I got my Platinum changed.
This thread just reminded me to try to upgrade my Platinum as well! My 2nd statement just cut and sure enough, after getting on live chat, they confirmed I had an offer to upgrade to the QS with no annual fee and 1.5% cash rewards. I already have a QS1, and LOVE using it for the rewards. I am happy to have another rewards card with 0 AF. It is a very easy process via chat--it took me about 5 minutes to complete. Good luck!
THanks for all the help everyone! I tried to upgrade to a Quicksilver MC with no AF on chat but that didn't work out, I then tried to get the AF waived on my current Platinum MC but that was a no-go as well. I'll try the EO next and see how that turns out.
Do a search for backdoor numbers and call an Account Manager. Also try Facebook messaging. That worked for my friend.
Good luck and keep us posted
