Capital One CLI

My wife's Cap 1 card has a CL of $300 and her third statement will cut in about 10 days, kicking in the first level of Credit Steps.  I have read of other people calling in and asking for a CLI before this happens to get an extra CLI.  Right now the account has a $3 balance (will become due after the statement cuts).  Should we pay that before calling to ask for a CLI, or ask with the balance still there?  Thanks!

your uti is 1% so $3 is inconsequential either way.  just ask.  at worst they'll say no but they will probably say yes.  congrats on the upcoming credit steps too!

I asked for a CLI about 6 weeks ago (and was declined letter in the mail said account was too new).  Will that affect anything now?

your recent denial of a cli should not affect your wife's account or her cli request in any way.

SUCCESS! I just called and they increased the CL $300 from $300 to $600! If/when Credit Steps kicks in, it should go to $800!

It's the same account, but it obviously did not have any affect.

Credit Steps CLI bumped us to $750.  Only $150, but it's still a CLI!  Next Credit Steps CLI should be in 4 months.  Call after 3 to request one?
