Hi Folks,
My sister called Capital One today on her $500 CL Standard Platinum card and she was wondering why she's never received a CLI in the 4 years she's had the card. The guy named Barnes said let me see if it's eligible. So she asked if this going to be a soft pull or a hard pull and the Barnes told her that they don't have access to that only CBs do. But she politely said that does not answer her question so she gave an example, "When you look this up, is the system going to pull a soft report or a hard report?" He then said the same script...So she asked for the supervisor and they said no pull or anything but that the account wasn't eligible for a CLI...She was pretty mad. She has a Zync and has less than 6% utilization overall and has had credit for 5 years and that card and a Old Navy CC for 5 years each and Zync back in August. So she has a nice profile.
I'm wondering if Capital One doesn't do hard pulls for CLI where people are saying they do? I know she'll be irritated if she finds one. She got his name and his user ID in case something happens.
From reading these boards, it seems as if sometimes the reps (not just Cap One) really don't know the answer and a lot of ppl are surprised when the CSRs DID do a HP. However, it doesn't mean this is what happened to your sister. If I were her, I'd call the backdoor #.
For myself, I now expect a HP when I want a CLI. This forces me to determine if I really want the CLI as well as being pleasantly surprised if it IS a soft pull. ![]()
Starting Score: 648Good suggestion, Clock. I will tell her that.
For what it's worth, I recently requested a CLI from Capital One, asked if it would be a hard or soft pull, was told it would be a soft pull, and it was indeed a soft pull. The request was denied with the stated reason that my account was not eligible for a customer initiated credit limit increase or something to that effect. I received a CLI initiated by Capital One about a month later.
What did your letter say that you got that it was declined? She just called the back door and it wasn't anything to do with her credit worthiness they said. She will be canceling the account when her year is up in March. She's disgusted.
I can't remember the exact wording, I had the letter but I tossed it after I received the increase initiated by Capital One. It was something vaguely circular to the effect that my request was denied because my account was ineligible for a credit limit increase. There was nothing about utilization, payment history, anything like that. It seemed to me that they just weren't giving out customer-initiated CLIs. I didn't bother with calling in for reconsideration. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Was it soft or hard pull?
that's helpful anyway Walt. She was so mad, I guess I would be too. I had Capital One a long time ago and I was just never satisfied with them. A lot of people like them but I seemed to never be good enough with them, EVER. Anyways...thanks for the help ![]()
Please, tell your sister not to get mad over a credit card. Yes, she'll want to punch their lights out -- most definitely!!! But, think of it as just another debt and We Don't Want Debt! Unless you've secured a card with your own money... be happy with the other cards. Zero the balance on Cap-1 and request to have the Annual Fee waived, if any. But, don't let her get her blood pressure up over money that doesn't belong to us. I'm stress-free and now I'm sharing info on my experiences in this cool forum.
I recntly requested a credit limit increase and they denied me, but there was Hard Pull on my report, thank goodness.
I dont get why capital1 wont increase my credit limit, i receieved one increase after 3 months, and then nothing in a year, even though ive had a perfect payment history.
