OK, one of the first cards I got once my Chapter 13 was discharged was Cap 1 Savor. The initial CL was $500; since then, I've only gotten it to $700. It feels like I'm bucketed (I hope I'm using that reference correctly). I periodically (prob a bit obsessively) check their preapproval link to see what cards, if anything, are available to me and gauge their approval metrics for me. I was consistently seeing ONLY secured card offerings, until recently when I got my scores up (EQ 767, TU 760, EX 782, Vantage Score is 736, BK fell off in March of this year), now I'm seeing preapproval options for Capital 1's Savor Rewards for Good Credit, Quicksilver for Good Credit, and Platinum Mastercard. I paid a bunch off with my yearly bonus and have to put some back on this year for our wedding, taxes, some dental etc, so I think I'll get back to close or a little over the balances I just paid off, so I feel like I got to strike on applications now before my numbers go low again.
Should I bother taking another hard credit check, new account ding, and apply for a new account to transfer the current Savor to another one? Is the other one potentially in the same boat as the one I have already?
Eventually, I'd like to get into Citibank (Cash back cards, maybe AA for their Admiral's club access) and Chase again, but I'm not sure I can based on those being included in my Ch 13 and my credit building (they're probably going to bounce me on low credit history, previous history with them, and/or too many inquiries).
there's honestly no way to tell if your approval will be $300 vs. $3k
I'd like to hope it's $3k because of the giant credit improvement since when you apped last, but there's really no way to know and it's up to you to decide if the risk of you getting $300, $500 or $1000 is okay for you, if it means you have a chance at a ~$3k limit
honestly? just get an amex gold and don't bother playing the cap1 approval lottery
If your sig is up to date.
5 cards 2023 and 4 cards 2024, plenty of cards and CL's to function.
Sit tight for a while, let your scores grow work on not over spending and keeping low utilization.
Next year get a couple of your dream cards.
Just my point of view.

to try to live without earning at least 3 points/3% on dining, I'm flabbergasted that anybody would even consider the thought!
this is the answer tho, 2% vs. 3% isn't really too much of a difference, be happy with what you currently have and garden some
but like I said above, just get an amex gold, tbh.

OP has a Savor card which give 3%. He doesn't have to settle for 2% on dining. With the low limit he may need to cycle payments more frequently, but spending big on the Savor card may be the ticket out of the Capital One bucket. That tends to be what they are looking for.

I spend $300-400 a month on the card but honestly not motivated to spend a lot of energy other than Friday night date night dinners. I pay as soon as the charges post to limit high utilization % on the card, use the cash back to go towards payments etc. They constantly solicit me for auto loans but frankly I'm borderline just sock drawering and just not ever being a Capital One active customer lol.

I get it. But there aren't a ton of no fee cards with multiple 3% categories out there. Savor is one of the best. Sure, you have to navigate the Capital One oddities, but a lot of people like their cards and banking services. Also, if Venture X is on your radar, you'd probably be wise to keep the relationship around. My suggestion is to hold off any new apps and put some heavy spend on your Savor to see if it triggers an exit from the bucket. You can always end it 6 months from now if it doesn't work out. Plus, not apping for new cards right now will put you in a good spot to get the cards you really want down the road.

from what OP was saying, I was imaging 3-4x cycling on a card they want to use but functionally can't
yeah OP, don't waste an application and a new account on the brief chance at a higher limit when your current card works fine for that

Honestly though, the Cap One app is so easy that paying a few times per month isn't a big deal. It literally takes one minute to make a payment. A minor inconvenience for a pretty good reward return. OP could easily rake in 60 bucks or more per month by cycling two extra payments.

wouldn't be surprised if their bucketed account eats 7-10 day holds on funds from payments for breakfast
