I used to have a Capital One Platinum (in fact, I had two different accounts, at 2 different times). I wasn't responsible at the time and they are now charge offs on my CR (I paid them). I am wondering if I will ever be able to get a Capital One card again? I loved my cards and I wish I still had one, Capital One was great to have and it sucks having ruined my relationship with them. I have called and asked but the reps are always cagey and never seem to be able to give me a straight answer. I don't want to keep applying if there's no chance. My scores are currently 605/647/642.
Thanks!
I have found that many creditors are very forgiving. Years ago I was not responsible and had several accounts default and go into collections. Years later (after paying/settling accounts) I was surprised to see approvals from them after my history. I would like to think that creditors understand that people can get into trouble, and given enough time and work on your credit I don't see why they would not consider you again. I cannot speak for Capital One but I would imagine them to be forgiving as well. It was over 5+ years before I applied to the creditors that I had defaulted on.
They've been quite forgiving to me. When I was 18 I opened an account with them that had a a $3000 SL. I was young and stupid, messed that up and let it get charged-off. About 8 years after that, I ended up with 2 cards from them ($300 limits), and again, screwed those up. Those 2 are in collections and will fall off next year. I was able to get a secured card with them 2 years ago and then another a year after that. I'm grateful that they've been this forgiving, especially now that I have learned to take my credit history seriously. They've really helped me rebuild.
Cap One is very forgiving. I had two COs with Cap One post-BK, one settled and one unsettled, and I got back in after they purchased the HSBC portfolio. My old Household Bank card is now a QS and is my second oldest active CC. Overall, I've had a good experience with them.
I had a charge off with them in 2008 or 9 for a platinum card. They then sued me and won in 2012. I applied in 2014 for a secured card and was approved. Got a Quicksilver One in 2015. Got sick and lost the secured card. They closed it and I continued paying it until it was PIF. They removed it from my credit report without me asking. Last December I applied for a platinum card and was approved. I was pre-qualified for an auto loan last month for $32k. And yesterday, I product changed my 4 month old platinum to a Quicksilver. I'd say they're pretty forgiving. Lol.
