Re: Capital One - Credit Steps

I just received a Cap 1 card and the information stated that I was enrolled in Credit Steps but it doesn't mention an increase amount.  Will they send another letter about this or should I call?

Re: Capital One - Credit Steps

My letter didn't state an amount either. I called for a CLI and the CSR informed me about the credit steps letter and told me my first increase would be $200 and the second increase would be $250, but I don't know if this is the same for everyone that's on the credit steps program. You may want to call the backdoor number and ask how much your increase would be. Good Luck!

Re: Capital One - Credit Steps

Does anyone know what determines the amount of CLI's for Credit Steps? The first time I called the Cap 1 rep said I'd get a $250 CLI. A couple weeks later I called again and was told I'd get a $500 around the 4th cycle and another $500 around the 7th cycle.

Re: Capital One - Credit Steps

It sounds like Cap 1 is all over the board with their CLI's through the credit steps program... I have scores in the mid-500's... I applied with Cap1 about a year ago and was denied. 6 months ago I applied for an auto loan with a co-signer and they approved the app... but I didn't end up purchasing a car or using the loan. About a month after that I got a pre-approved credit card application from them. I got a card with a $200 CL, and a credit steps letter saying my limit would increase to $750 after 3 months, then would increase to $1000 after another 3 months. I'm surprised they would increase my limit so much with my low scores... but I'm not complaining. I've been working pretty hard to clean up my credit mess over the last 2 years so it will be a good feeling to get a card with a $1000 limit again. I've already received my third statement and have been paying 2-3 times per month... I'm going to try calling them to see if I can get another CLI before the first credit steps increase kicks in. So far I really like Cap1...

Re: Capital One - Credit Steps

I did receive my credit steps letter about a week ago.  My card limit is $200 and it only mentioned one step increase to $500 but nothing about additional steps.  Is this usual?

I have a love hate relationship with Cap One.  I love them because they removed all my lates from years ago and reopened my same 2001 account.  I hate them because they don't give me CLI.  They want me to apply for other cards with them. Currently, I suspended all charges on the card.  I have Cap 1 in timeout until July 2010.

Cap 1 has to earn its way out of timeout with me.  I didn't understand how they could give me a personal loan for $10,000, but not raise my credit limit.  I paid the personal back within a year.  I only got it because it was offered and it was an opportunity to increase my FICO scores.

Hi DI,

My understanding is that Cap One products have different CL ranges.  You may have topped out that particular CapOne product.  Which Cap One card do you have in timeout?  (Chances are it's behaving as good as it possibly can).  For example, my 5-year old can change her behavior in time-out; but time-out simply can't change the behavior of my nine month old.

Good luck with your Cap One!

I have the CapOne No Hassle Points.  CapOne is wanting me to apply for more cards.  I'm not going to do that. If they can convert my card to a new one that will give me a higher limit, I'm fine with that. I do not want more than one card with the same bank.

Thanks for the replies! I'll just wait and see what Cap 1 will do with my account.

Re: Capital One - Credit Steps

I have had a C1 card for years thats been stuck at $500. I kept getting denied for a CLI and then one day last month I figured what the hell, and applied for a new account. They gave me another $500 limit with the credit steps program at 4/7 month statements. I see some of you have called for CLI backdoor numbers before the credit step statements. Is that something I should do as well or did it mess up your credit steps? I've been clawing out of this hole for over 2 years and I don't want to jeopardize my chances of getting a CL over $1000. I feel like that would be a real step towards credit civilization....

Re: Capital One - Credit Steps

I have a capital one card. I was a ch7 bankruptcy discharged in Feb 09, applied for a Cap1 card in May and they gave me a 500 limit with the capital steps. By the 3rd statement (beginning Jul 14th) it did go up to 1000, and by the 7th it should go up to 1500. I have not called to request any CLI as I didn't need to. Have always paid not only on time, but several times a month more than the minimum payment.
