Capital One Denied Because of too many accounts open?

Hey guys,

So I applied for the Capital One Platinum card and got a letter stating that I was declined because I have too many open accounts with Capital One. I only have two, which are the Capital One Journey student card and the Secured Mastercard. I did not know there is a limit to how many you can have.

Is it just an easy way to say no we dont want to approve you? Or is there an actual limit?

Im confused about this....

Anyone have an idea?

There is a limit on regular Capital One accounts, yes. It is 2.

You can have as many cobranded/partner cards as you want though. Those are the ones like Orbitz, MTV, GM, Sony, etc.

Hmm it may have to do with your secure account with them. I have 4 Capital One accounts. 1 open in 2001, 1 open in 2011, 1 original HSBC open in 2007, and last one open in January 2014.

I have 3 cards from Capital one. I opened a secured card back in October. I got approved for the Journey in Feb then the next day I applied for QuicksilverOne. Got denied due to the fact I have too many cards with Cap1. I reconned and ask if they can reconsider and they approved me. I'd recon and try your luck.

yes, which is pretty annoying considering they keep sending me pre approvals for a card I already have.  But i got the same response a few months back
