My girlfriend opened a Capitial One Platinum credit card before we were together when she was like 20 years old (first credit card). She has had the account for 1 year and 10 months. She does not want to pay the $79 annual fee. She tried calling and they told her there is no card she can change to. They wouldnt waive the fee either or give her a statement credit. This is her longest credit card with her only other credit card being a Citi Platinum Select Mastercard which has only been open 4 months. What do you all suggest? Is there a way to get them to do a product change? She has spoken to multiple managers. Her CL is $700 for Capital One and for Citi it is $1000. Do you guys suggest canceling her credit card and apply for a different company such a BOA Americard, Chase Freedom, etc. Any advice, card, and comments would be appreciated!

Try BofA. If the AF is bothering her that bad it's not going to hurt her that bad to close it. How is her EX credit file looking?? EX INQ's??

Unfortunately most of the Cap1 rebuilder cards won't grow with you ~ your best option is probably to close it and move on to another creditor, assuming that you don't need the CL to help your utilization.
The card will stay on your CRs for 10 years after you close it.

The beat thing you can do is close the account.
Personal experience I had a cap one with $500 and a $60 AF that wouldnt grow despite many attempts at CLI.
Cap one does offer PC in some circumstances. You dont need the card. Depending on her scores, she might be lucky with Discover or even a Barclays

IMO, I would close the account. I've been a Capital One customer since 2008 and one thing I've learned is that they will never budge on the account "maintenance fee." The account will still age for the next ten years on your credit report, so your AofA should be okay.
I plan to close my accounts this year too, one in May and the other in Nov because the answer that I always get is no we will not waive the annual fee.
Capital One does have prime cards for more established credit history but who wants one card for three inquiries and you can get three better cards with the same three inquiries spread out across the three CRA.
just my two cents lol
happy crediting :-)

Their prime cards for individuals who have no INQ's and already have the cards they want for the most part.
