Honestly with your scores, and history with capital one. I would contact EO, and get the QS with no annual fee, then going after the QS1 with the 39 dollar fee. I also don't get the big visa signature fascination either, most benefits I would never use. Anyway your way better off getting the card, even if they can't switch it, I would honestly just close out the card and get the QS with no annual fee. It's would be a far higher cl and no annual fee which is the most important. Just my two cents.

Thanks, Nova.
I'm pretty much "credit strategy" dumb. For years I've sat with 2 low limit cards not thinking much of it until last January.
If I do decide to contact EO; is it best to do that immediately before the new card comes, or wait until the card comes?
I think I just answered my own question..do it now.
Silly question perhaps; I've just never been forceful at asking for things when it comes to my credit cards. That is changing for 2016!

Yep, I would do it now. Like I said , they might not be able to do it because it's a mastercard if I'm mistaken, but I was always told a close mouth don't get fed! If they can not change it. I would just apply for the QS card with no fee and close the other card once the annual fee was about to be due, and don't worry about closing the card, it will still report for 10 years.
Also don't feel dumb at all, I had a secured card for 3 years, and couldnt figure why i couldnt get a unsecured card for the longest even though i paid on time every month, turns out paying the minimum and nearly maxed out it a bad idea. Lmao!!!!

You can PC to a no fee QS MasterCard. They even have World MasterCard and World Elite MasterCard levels in QS products.
LMAO..that would do it! Believe me, I had crap credit and created my own hell years ago. Best advice I ever got was from the car sales guy..I went in to pay cash for a brand new car..sure, they wanted to sell me a loan at a ridiculous rate with my crap credit. He told me how it would help me in years to come. It did. Tremendously.
I'm pretty much not into applying for a 2nd card with them.
I will take yours and Fortjay's advice and contact them tomorrow. If I get the fee waived, I call it good progress and I will be content. For now
That's good to know; Thanks sjt!! I appreciate that!

I understand very well; but thanks for the clarification. I never mentioned anything about PCing to a VISA SIG. I acftually have one with BofA. Nothing to get excited about...no singing to me is necessary
iMonger; YES, that is exactly what i was confused about...the annual fee being $39 on the QS1, yet the chat agent said it would remain at $59. Guess I will deal with it when the card comes.
Thanks for all of your replies and suggestions.
I feel your pain... one of my oldest accounts is my Quicksilver One MasterCard, with a legacy $79 (!) annual fee.
Each year I call, and each time they offer to waive half of it, but that still means I'm paying slightly more than a brand-new card holder, and my account is soon to be nine years old! Like you, I have a perfect payment history, and for the last four years I've paid in full each month.
While I would like to keep the account, I've decided this year when I ask if I'm told no again (as I expect I will be) I'm going to combine the account with my no-AF Quicksilver Visa. It's no longer worth it to pay the AF simply to keep the account history, and it'll report for up to 10 after closure, anyway.
It's especially annoying since there are plenty of posts on here from folks who have been successful in getting their QS1 upgraded to a no-AF QS. The other posters are correct in that the card brand doesn't change, but that's fine with me - I just want the dang AF gone! Some folks have suggested that the credit line needs to be over $3k before Capital One will PC the card, but that's not accurate, either - at least in my case. My credit line is $3900, and I'm still told "there are currently no offers on your account".
Basically, you've got some decisions to make. If your AF is due now (is already showing up online) you could give them a call and see about a waiver; again, I've been successful in getting a half waiver for a few years now, but they can only waive it after its been charged. If your AF isn't due yet, you can just wait a bit to see if something changes in the next few weeks/months; the last rep I spoke with told me all accounts are reviewed every three weeks, but that may or may not have been accurate. As others have suggested, you can always give the EO a try. Regarding the 'backdoor numbers', personally I've had little luck with them, as the ones I've tried seem to now be routed to regular CSRs.
The other options you have are the 'obvious' ones, which are to open a new Capital One account and move the credit line from this account to the new one after six months, or simply close this account and move on to other lenders. Depending on your personal circumstances, one of these could be the best way to go.
Good luck whatever you decide, and let us know how it works out!
