Capital One Quicksilver Upgrade to Venture Questions

I have the capital one quicksilver card and I have heard about people being able to move to the venture card. I do not have any upgrades on my account at the moment according to the person at customer service. Does anyone have any information on when that would possibly come available? is it based on credit or just completely random or should I just request to move to that card. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

There is no rhyme or reason with CapOne in regards to upgrades being available.  They kinda just happen one day and you go from there.  I don't believe I've read anything on the site that gives specfics as to what qualifies one for the upgrade.  Again, it just seems to be completely random.  Good luck and I hope you're able to upgrade to a card better suited for you soon.

So if I am not available should I even bother just calling or going to the chat and asking for the upgrade?

In my experience, chat and phone rep had the same information.  They're not like Synchrony where chat can say no and credit solutions says yes.  CapOne seems to be pretty consistent with their answer regardless of the method of contact.  Again, this is just my experience with them.

The Venture is not an "upgrade" from Quicksilver, strictly speaking.

If you signed up for a Venture in the first place, the sign-up bonus is good but I can't think of any sensical reason for PCing from a 1.5% cashback card to the Venture.

Unfortunately that's kind of how it works.  Just set a mental reminder to check once a month if you're truly interested in PCing the card.  Hopefully soon you'll be able to get what you're wanting.  Good luck!

Different strokes for different folks.  If he's wanting it and okay with the rewards tied to the card, I say go for it.  It's all about persoanl choice and it's certainly not one size fits all.

Yes i know its techincally not a upgrade but I would like to switch to earn miles. I travel quite a bit and I think it would just be a better fit for me. It bugs me that is not a upgrade and I cant move to it Smiley Sad

A couple of things about Venture "miles"... first of all, they aren't really "miles" like you might be used to thinking of.  Venture earns the equivalent of 2% cash back and refers to that as "miles", but to get the full 2% value you must use those miles to "erase" a travel purchase, or buy gift cards.

Unless you spend more than $12k per year on a Venture, you'll actually earn less rewards than you would with a 1.5% Quicksilver due to the Venture's annual fee.  Also the Quicksilver has no restrictions on your cash rewards; you can get a statement credit anytime, or even a paper check.  That's why so many people will start off with a Venture (to get the nice sign-up bonus) and later change it to a Quicksilver before the fee hits.

If you plan to spend more than $12k per year on the card and you will have travel charges to "erase" then the Venture would be the better choice (to maximize rewards).

Hope this helps!  Smiley Wink
