I just checked to see if i was pre-qualified for any capital one cards, and a Capitalone SecuredCard showed up,but when I applied it said I wasn't eligible. Why would they pre qualify me and then say im not eligible. What can I do?

My experience with Cap1 is you can't do anything if the computer system denies you

Did you fill out the complete application before it said your were not elgible? Did it say why?
I filed BK in 1/1/10 - finalized 4/1/10. I went on CapitalOne's website yesterday and did the prequal. They said that I could get the secured card. I applied and got DENIED. I included CapitalOne unsecured cards in my BK which is probably the reason why I got the denial?
Experian - 599
Transunion - 579
As I recall, the Cap One prequal site doesn't actually soft you. It takes you on your word as to what you enter, and so it doesn't know the details of your reports.
That means that when they pull the actual report, they might well see something that's a no-go.
If I'm wrong on the nature of the Cap One site, someone please holler! thx
eta: OK, per the replies below, they sorta soft you. Thanks for the catch.
they soft pull
I've gotten a soft before. But I think the Pre qual only checks basic stuff and score. It doesnt check if your blacklisted currently for burning them or to many or recent accounts with them. Kinda like hsbc.
Hello all,
First post here. I just today submitted my app for their secured card and got a notice that I will be notified by mail in 7-10 business days. In the past I assumed thats always declined. Are some people getting declined right on the site? Can I assume I may still be approved for that via the mail?

I got the 7 - 10 days and I was approved. I don't remember anyone posting that they got instant approval.
