I just hit the 6-month point since my discharge and have had a Cap1 Plat card for 6 months; they just gave me my first CLI, going from the initial $3K to $4K.
I've read that you should have a $5K CL with them before applying for the Venture card, or at least most with $5K+ CL with Cap1 were able to easily get the Venture card. While I am sure they consider a myriad of other factors, has anyone found this to be the case?
I only ask, as I was waiting for the CLI before I app for the Venture/QS cards. Now that I got the CLI, I am just trying to avoid a HP and a rejection...so trying to decide if I do it now or do it in 6-months, at which point I would have the $5K SL and a year of rebuilding history to help them look more favorably upon me. ![]()
Check the Capital One Pre-Quals you might be suprised to see that you are already Pre-Approved for the Venture.
I check it religiously. ![]()
Pulled the trigger and was quite surprised—Venture Rewards w/ $30K limit.
I read that if you apply for another card quickly (perhaps same-day apps?), you only incur the one hard pull from Cap1. Therefore, I had the QS application populated and ready to submit AFTER tje Venture Reward app. Boom—$3K CL.
I felt invincible after this, so I applied to refinance my should-have-been-reaffirmed truck that I continue to pay. Boom—I hit the trifecta and get the truck refinanced, too. ![]()
One small step for Capital One, one giant leap for my tradelines and future credit scores.
GL!

That's awesome - congratulations!
What are your current scores, if you don't mind sharing?
Congrats
The loan application reflected a 645 EQ score...unsure of the others, but in the same ballpark...6 months (nearly to the day) post-discharge.
