Capital One combining Cards

So like a dolt I opened up a Cap One platinum after I had a Quicksilver One. I want to combine both cards to my Quicksilver One. But it only gives me the option to combine QS to Platinum. What is going on?

Re: Capital One combining Cards

Cap1 can be backwards sometimes with combinations and upgrades, but if it shows either, you can try calling in. Unless the qs1 isn't eligible at all. At that point, wait a month or so and so a pc on the platinum. You'll probably get a regular quicksilver, and roll the qs1 into it.

I've had my QS1 since September of 2017 and started with a SL of $300. I got a CLI in April to $500. I stupidly opened up a platinum in April and got a $500 SL. What is the requirment for getting regular Quicksilver?

If you cold app, you need excellent credit, but they're more lenient if you have history with them. If you don't have excellent credit, you can product change the platinum to a Quicksilver. Just log into your account from anything except the app. Under the card, choose "services" or "+ services" or "more services" depending on the device and browser you're using. Look for "offers and upgrades". If it's available, it will be there. Or you can search the forum for the capital one upgrade link. That's how I found the upgrade for my Platinum. I did it at 4 months old.

Re: Capital One combining Cards

@Anonymous, your Platinum may be too new to to qualify for a combination. Also, to be eligible for a combination, the donor card has to have a balance of zero.

First things, first, though. Call in or chat each and every month to see if your QS1 can be product-changed into a no-fee card. They may offer either the Quicksilver or Savor. QS1s are hard to PC, so if that isn't working, the Platinum will very likely become eligible for an upgrade in four to six months. At that point, you'd be able to eliminate the fee by combining the QS1 into the Platinum.

If you've gotten rid of the fee on the QS1 by the time the Platinum is eligible for a combination, you can combine either way. Many prefer to keep the older card. But sometimes the newer card has a lower APR. If that's the case, it may make sense to combine into the newer card.
