Capital One issues

Why is it so hard to obtain a Capital One card or even a store card that is backed by Capital One??? It is such a turn off. I applied for a Kohls card (I thought they were backed by GE) a couple weeks ago and got declined because I didn't have a mortgage and my credit limits on my current cards aren't high enough! Wth...go figure. I LOVE GE, have yet to be turned down by GE and with all of my subprime cards I'm starting to think that GE only likes me because the subprime people like me, *sighs* guess I'm not worthy.

Re: Capital One issues

What Cap1 card have you been applying for?  Just Kohls?  Have you tried their lower tier cards?  My wife was well over 700 and got a $400 limit on Kohls, not exactly soemthing to aspire to.

Have you tried to get their Cash Rewards Mastercard? I was approved for that a few weeks ago and at the time my credit score was around 645 and I've never had a credit card of any kind. I don't have a mortgage either, just student loans.

Re: Capital One issues

If you have shown a positive payment history with their secured, it's highly probable you will be approved for their CR unsecure card. When I got my CR last august, two of my scores were in the mid 500s. but I also had 14mo of positive payments on the secure.

Amex PRG(NPSL), Amex BCE($5K), Amex Hilton($1K), NavCheck ($15K), NFCU CR Siggy($20K), USAA Amex($7K), USAA World MC($7K), CSP($2.3K), Chase Marriott($1.8K), Care Credit($2.5K), Cap1 QS($3.5K), VS($500), Cap1 Secure($200) Starting Scores(Jan 2013): FICO EQ: 643, TU: 552, EX: 567 Current Scores(Sept. 2016): FICO EQ: 672, TU: 703(?), EX: 682 In the Garden FOR-EV-ER!!!!! Cards and goals achieved! Let's grow and mature these babies!!!

Re: Capital One issues

If you apply for cash rewards just make sure you app for the MC and not the visa.

Visa is substantially harder to obtain.

Re: Capital One issues

(on my phone, cant edit)

Just wanted to clarify the above statement applies only to the capital one cash rewards card. Network has nothing to do with approval criteria, that is just how their cash rewards card works.

Re: Capital One issues

I also got approved for a newcomer card with limited credit history.
If you have good payment history then contact CapOne EO to change your card to unsecured.
For me CapOne is the best card due to no foreign transaction charges.
