Capital One returned payment on 0$ balance question

I've read horror stories on here about C1 closing accounts due to returned payment fees. However I had a 0$ statement. And the reason it auto took is because I had a payment being credited on the 10th for a charge from a few days prior. They auto took 8.91$ from my C1 checking that I never keep money in at once because its just for a local access point. Will they give me AA for a returned payment on an account that in reality had no payment due and was already being credited the sameday they autopaid?

There are many factors into determining if they would issue an AA. This could be based on credit, income, history with capital one, etc. Usually if the payment is returned, they would call but if they havent call you could give them a call and try to resolve the issue and act in good faith on your part but overall you should be fine.

Similar thing happened to me with Citi. Though I had auto pay setup, I always paid before due date so they never had to take auto pay. One month, they decided to take auto pay two days after it was paid, from a closed account and charged me $29 for the pleasure. They ultimately reversed it. The AA they took on me? Only offered me a $500 CLI. Off to the SD for Citi.

I don't think you have anything to worry about honestly. I can't do autopay with Chase because I keep getting "returned payments" and it shuts off. I called to find out why and they said it's because my NFCU account number is invalid. Yet when I manually schedule payments from the same account they go through just fine. I would follow up with a phone call and get it straightened out, they will be able to see what happened and take care of it no problem.
