Capital One says I'm dead

So, my first ever credit card was Capital One. I called to pay my bill and was told I couldn't, my account was closed and I was reported deceased. I sent verification from Social Security Administration proving I was alive. Still got nowhere and am still arguing with them. They show a 30 days past due amount and deceased on my transuinion report. I am now unable to access my Experian or Equifax report. I called Equifax and got ahold of a live person and they are disputing it and say I should be able to check my report but it may take a few hours. Experian on the other hand has no one to help me and I need a 10 digit report number to talk with anyone. I am completely exhausted with this and was wondering if any of you have ever experienced this. Also, do any of you know a number I can call to reach Experian? I am going to type a letter and send a copy of the Social Security letter verifying I am alive via certified mail and hopefully get it resolved that way if necessary. Sorry for rambling, but this is INSANITY!!!!! I don't even know if Capital One will reopen my account or remove the derogatories. I'm thinking I may have to sue them.

Hate to say this but the three major credit bureaus will not win any awards for being consumer friendly. May have to beat them over the head. Terrible situation to be in. Wonder who reported you as deceased? Credit seems to be the most logical illogical business. Good luck!!!

Wow! I sincerely hope you get this resolved quickly. Do you share a common name with a deceased family member? I've heard of issues arising because of that.

Keep both your credit and your body in top shape!

On a more serious note, I wonder how you can fix this. It's not like there is a Non-Dead Certificate you can send them.

I was thinking that could be the reason too...or have you pulled your reports lately? There's nothing on there that belongs to anyone else (who could be the dead one)?

I know stuff peorodically shows up on My Mom's CR that's from my sister..going on for years. She's even married now and has a different middle name..It's a pain in the ass to fix..

Go to EXPERIAN site and or the free annual credit report. Com or whatever da site is. And request your free copy of your report.if it will allow u too

 

and it give you a report number.  Don't know if your able to pull a report or not.

 

sorry, I don't know how to help, never experienced death before. Lol JK.

There was an episode of 60 Minutes about folks declared dead. It aired a few weeks ago. It looked to be a mess though theirs was thru Social Security. Hopefully yours hasn't gotten to that point. Sorry and good luck.
