I finally got the chat feature, it never would pop up for me most days lol. I inquired about combining my 2 cards because anytime I try online it states I am not eligible and give reasons than NONE apply to my situation. The chat person basically just cut and pasted what I already have been told when I try to combine, I again told him none of those reasons apply to me. So then he comes up with some "other reasons" which again do not apply to me.
He finally says and I quote " combining accounts is new to capital one" excuse me NEW what on earth are you talking about. I finally just closed the chat
Just trying to combine my Q1 into my Q and I continue to get this message on why I can't:
Generally my experience with Cap-1 too, which is one reason why I closed all my Cap-1 accounts.
Honestly I am thinking of just closing them once I pay off the little balance I have on one.
Have you called them on the phone, or just chatted?
Hi OP,
Sucks that you want to combine and it isn't allowed. I think some folks often overlook the statement made on the CapOne combination page. We look at the list and think that as long as the criteria is met then we should be go to go...but they specifically say that those are only SOME of the criteria and not all. They mention that other factors are considered. What are the other factors? It could be payments not sufficent enough to them, lack of account usage, inquiries from a recent soft pull, the list could go on and on. As the consumer we aren't privy to what those factors are and probably never will be.
Best of luck in combining your cards down the line if you choose to hang on to them.

Quite new. I combined my first cards in either 2000 or 2001, so basically they've only allowed this for at least 75% of the company's history.
I think they changed some of the wording...
I know it used to be that the card you were closing in the combination had to have a $0 STATEMENT balance AND current balance. Maybe that is the issue?

This happened to me as well. I kept messaging them and no luck had the message escalated to a manager and then technical support to only end up with that same copy and paste message, bc they couldnt figure out why it wouldnt allow me to combine. A few days later I tried again and it worked just fine. Rep said, Maybe pending credits/payment was holding up the process. I think they just have a system error.
