CapitalOne New CLI Rule!

Take with a grain of salt but just got off of the phone with an "Account Executive" called because they weren't reporting my balance to the three bureaus, she cleared all that up and asked if I had anymore questions and asked of the procedures for CLI and she said "We are actually transitioning to a 'request only' protocol we will soon no longer be doing automatic CLI's"

TL;DR Mark your last CLI and wait 181 days to request your next CLI, don't put cruise control on and expect to get an automatic increase.

Re: CapitalOne New CLI Rule!

Pretty sure most cap1 users request a CLI as often as they can already. Lol

Re: CapitalOne New CLI Rule!

"you can request a CLI as often as you wish"

"BUT... you can only get a CLI every 181 days"

according to the CSR I chatted with last week, when I asked about PCing to Savor.

Re: CapitalOne New CLI Rule!

Huh?  My CapOne account actually shows how long it will be until I get a CLI, including what the new limit will be.  Of course I make a rediculously high income compared to my current credit limit.

It looks like you're in the Credit Steps program. I think the OP is likely referring to auto-increases that occur outside of Steps.

But let's say that Credit Steps were discontinued tomorrow. Capital One would still be bound to the terms they promised when you opened the card (as long as you hold up your end of the bargain).

Re: CapitalOne New CLI Rule!

I didn't know this rule. I've requested cli every 60 days this year & only got one approved! I now see why.

Re: CapitalOne New CLI Rule!

Makes some sense, now. I remember back in the early days of my Quicksilver, Capital One would increase me about twice a year. Usually, only one was from a request, and then they’d drop a second increase after I’d given up hope. Discover is the same way as well nowadays. When I look back at the latest emails I received from them the increases are roughly 6 months apart. That said, the excuse they’d given me the 20 requests in that timespan was “insufficient experience with credit limit”. I miss the days when Discover gave me monthly increases 😭. Wish other companies would do the 3x CLI that Amex does.
