Capitalone

How often do you have to use to keep open? My MasterCard is in sd well actually fireproof lockbox that's how I sd my cards. Last time I used is march. I plan on canceling in fall pretty much no matter what I don't want 3 capital ones. And it's had it the shortest 3 years. Is every 90 days sufficient?
Cards: CSP $5k, Capital One Cash Rewards VS $3100, Discover it $3k Capital One MasterCard $600, Orchard Bank $3k, Barclays Rewards MC $1250 Gapcard $900, BR $300, Neiman Marcus $1k, Macys $1200 Walmart $500
In the garden until I can get a BCP

Re: Capitalone

I think every 3 months is sufficient. I have similar issues because although I got 4 new credit cards recently, I don't like credit cards, prefer cash, and am afraid of going into debt. I wish I could SD mine for like 5 years. I am considering getting some really small recurring charge like an amazon show once a month and putting them on auto bill. That way I can sockdrawer them and they are automated to have some token payment. This thing is I am so paranoid about missing a payment that I would prefer to make payments manually to make sure they get done. I am making a token payment per card like once every other month and I am allowing them to post to my statement also before paying them sometimes.

Re: Capitalone

I have not used my Cap1 for well over 2 years. I just logged into the website to check if it's active and it looks good.

May make a difference if you have an AF or not.  I suspect my silly $59 Orchard or whatever it is will never be closed unless I flake on payment or initiate the request myself.  There's also the compounding issue of a tradeline being flagged as inactive, which anecdotally gets ignored in the FICO model rather like a dispute flag.

It's worth using any tradeline you care about every few months to avoid both possible issues.

Re: Capitalone

I have a couple of SD'd cards that I leave in the safe, but still use for automatic payments.  I get ten bucks a month off of the cable bill by letting them auto-charge my Orchard card, and my Gym membership is auto-charged onto anther one.  I don't have to carry the cards or use them but they stay active.

Re: Capitalone

I may transfer Hulu to it but I'm getting rid of it pretty much either way by the end of the year. However I am going to try to get limit increased b4 canceling it looks better I think cards with higher limits haha. Truth is I don't want that many cards. Ideally once credit is good I'd prefer 8 good cards or less. I'm really not worried about a cld ha bc in 4 years my card has gone a $100 up.

You'll have a much better chance of a CLI if the card is active.
