Capitol one Limit increase question

I just got approved for their Capitol one venture rewards card for 10k TODAY.

i have a BB&T Rewards card for 10k

and a best buy 1k card.

21k in total credit!

I was wondering when i should request an increase on my capitol one card? I really wanted 20k to start so when should i request an increase in my credit line?

Re: Capitol one Limit increase question

Congrats on getting a Capital One card that matches your highest limit. You can ask for a CLI of course, but there is a very slim chance you'll get it considering they already matched your highest card.  Ten grand for an opening limit on a thin file is pretty strong Smiley Wink

Wait a year and you'll have a much better chance IMO.

Re: Capitol one Limit increase question

There's no harm done by asking because if you're denied, there's no waiting period before you can request again. Along with that, if they offer an increase that you feel is too low, you can decline it, again without resetting any clock. The only clock involved is that you have to wait six months after an increase before you're eligible again.

In answer to your question, I'd give it about six months, provided that you're using the card rather than letting it collect dust. But if you want to try sooner, go ahead. Smiley Happy

Re: Capitol one Limit increase question

I agree with HO that 6 months is a pretty good time to request a CLI with CO.

OP, what type of usage (spend) do you plan on putting on the card every cycle?  With a $10k limit, if you're putting $2k-$3k at least through it every cycle, it's possible after 3-4 months that you could request a CLI and see success.  I doubt you'd get it to $20k like you're hoping for, but I could see $12,500-$15,000.  If you're only putting < $2k through the card every cycle, that's not much incentive for them to give you a CLI, so I personally wouldn't try before the 6 month mark.
