Cards that give 0% on purchases if you ask?

My car insurance is coming up due, and the rate went up (again!).  There's a discount for paying in full instead of monthly, so I was thinking of applying for a new credit card with a 0% rate so that I could get the discount but still spread the car insurance payment out a bit.

After looking at cards for awhile, I was kind of hesitant to take a hard pull just to spread out my insurance payment.  Then I remembered that Discover sometimes has 0% offers if you haven't had one for awhile.  I got on chat and asked, and they said that I could have 0% for 12 months!  That works out great for this situation, and I didn't have to take a hard pull for a new card.

I've only ever read about Discover doing this, but I wondered if any other cards are also this easy to get a 0% on purchases offer for the next time insurance is due!  Smiley Happy

Discover I know will, if its available for you. Call into the customer service number, and ask them if there are any promotions available currently on you card. If so, they will say yes, and transfer you to a different department (probably retentions), and they will tell you what the promo is, and if you want to accept it. A lot of the times, online, it wont show any promos, but if you call, it will.

I think the question was, does anyone other than Discover offer this?  Smiley Wink

Re: Cards that give 0% on purchases if you ask?

Well, to answer my own question, I did find a 0% offer on my BOA Customized Cash Rewards card when clicking on the promotional options tab on the website when I was making my payment.  I did not have the same offer on my BOA Americard though.

I haven't used the CCR much, so maybe they're trying to get me to do some spending.

The offer was 0% through September 2024, so a little over six months, and it looked like I could just accept it on the website.  I didn't need it at the moment since I already put the insurance payment on the Discover card, but I might look there for the next time to see if the offer is still there.

Re: Cards that give 0% on purchases if you ask?

I got the promo on those cards:

once from M&T Visa Signature in Feb 2020, it's very rare;

once from Citi Double Cash in Sep 2021, it's very rare;

once from Capital One QuickSilver/Walmart in Aug 2021, it's very rare;

often from Barclays Priceline/Rewards (I think both discontinued), average once every 2 years (1 year promo period, 1 year cool down, my current one is about to end next month);

once from Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards (3 cards) in Feb 2024, it's very rare.

I have all those cards at least 5+ years, only got the offer once, I wouldn't count on them. I never got any non-intro 0% APR Purchase offer from Amex, Chase, FNBO, PNC,Wells Fargo, Elan/US Bank.

Re: Cards that give 0% on purchases if you ask?

I am receiving several 0% offers on several cards ranging from BOA, Discover, US Bank and Amex. Since I PIF, I do not mind about such offers.

I do not know whether it is fine to activate the 0% offers on Amex cards. Sometime ago, I activated such offer on one of my Amex cards and after a few weeks, I applied for a new other Amex card. In the application step, they said that I am not eligible to receive SUB because I recently activated one offer from Amex.
