Re: Cash advance credit card

Ring!  $3 fee, 8.24% apr.  They don't scare easily on cash advances on that particular card.  I think they understand that's going to be a lot of the business done on that card is BT and cash advance.  I've done several and they've never scared.  Beyond that I would look to credit union for cards with favorable cash advance terms.  None that I'm aware of offer a grace period.

I will say on Ring that I've deposited cash advance checks into my bank account and they have always labeled the balance as 'available' immediately.  I've never cashed one for straight paper but they probably would allow that.  Your bank may vary.  Then of course it takes a few biz days for the check to post back to my Ring account.  That could be considered a grace period of sorts.. I suppose.

Re: Cash advance credit card

Barclay ring for $3, but the interest starts right away.

Wondering about a line of credit situation.  Do those have a grace period?

I know that my credit union visa functions as a line of credit and it still has a grace period.

In your particular situation I would advise a American Express Serve card.  You have a BCE and its at 0% APR since its a newer account.  You will only be able to load $500 twice a month but still that is better than nothing.  You will have to use google to circumvent any fees with it.  Moneypass atms are rare but there seems to be at least 1 in each town I have been to.

Re: Cash advance credit card

Walmart, Sams Club allow you to take cash at checkout and its a 'purchase' no interest if paid in full by next statement

Also - discover offers the same thing

Re: Cash advance credit card

Why don't you buy like a mini vault and put your extra CC's and $$$ in it. Go to the bank and withdraw, like for example $1-2k, and put in the vault at home, then when you need some just take it out.

You avoid having to add a debit card to your "slim" wallet, and you have access to $$ 24/7

I like that idea if a person had investments and an emergency fund set up.  But $2k in cash in some unique crisis isnt going to be worth more than a secure travelers cheque, right? Id prefer the person have $2k on a netspend premier or brinks earning 5% APY or at least a 2% high yield checking....

I mean really what is the universal currency aside from a bank?  Bitcoins?  Precious metals?  I know my relative keeps shoebox fulls of nickels because they are fire proof. Lol. No comment.

Im just offering up suggestions...Smiley Wink  The way I see it, OP has a few options...

1). just carry the dang debit card

2). carry some cash

3). get a CC that wont charge him crazy amounts to get $$$ from it, like Sams (MC), Walmart, (MC), Discover, and gives you a little time to pay it, like by next statment.

Good options, didnt mean to sound snarky I was just taken back to the nickels lol.

Or he could get one of those Coin cards that combines all the cards.  I am still waiting for technology to catch up for that personally.

Is there any CC that lets you take a cash advance and gives you a grace period before the interest hits?

Also, what is the best cash advance credit card (lowest rates, lowest fees, etc)

Discover.

https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/member-benefits/cash-over-purchases.html

According to Discover, "Cash Over transactions are limited to $120 every 24 hours with no monthly limit. Most stores have a cash over limit. Please check with your local store."

According to my local store, it's $60 over a 24-hour period.

Perfectly safe, zero interest, zero fee, zero cash-advance penatly, zero adverse-action scare. I have used it in Texas (multiple times) and in Hawaii (couple of times during a vacation when I found out that there weren't either a Chase or a BoA ATM in close proximity). I even carried it as a balance during my 0% promo days without any problem.

In the stores where they're allowed (see merchant examples in the link), it gets coded as purchase but internally it's coded separately: no rewards earned.

It's upto you whether you're going to buy a pack of gum or do full-fledged grocery shopping before you take the cash back.

A word of caution: I haven't tried doing this repeatedly, so don't know if that'll trigger any problem. But so far, Discover's has been good to me.

Re: Cash advance credit card

Have never been to a place that doesn't take credit card. They might have a minimum purchase of like 10 bucks to use credit card. That's why I always have at least 100 bucks cash with me that and I like to buy lotto and scratchers. If place doesn't take credit how would u use card for cash advance?
