That type of behaviour from US Bank kept me from apping for the Cash+ card as I am not in their footprint and cannot apply in branch. Many phone apps ended like this. So once I have all other cards on my wishlist I will go for that gamble with US Bank. I truly hate to apply for a card where the lender can simply change on their end. I much rather would get a denial for the Cash+ instead of a substitue card I did not request. Cash+ is the only card I am interested in and anything else I would not use anyhow. Still hope one day US Bank will change their terrible approval system with bait and switch policy.

There seems to be a good track record with PC later though - Themanwhocan and others have switched to Cash+ after as few as 2 months. Haven't heard of anyone being stuck with the lower tier card

This card is worth gardening for to make sure that you have a better chance of approval. I know that it is one of my motivators to staying in the garden.
I know this has already been asked but on mobile right now and I'm curious is the bureau pull lender dependent or do they tend to pull a certain one? Thanks guys!
They pulled TU when I apped
TU also. Which was 766 or so at the time. I got 14.99% APR, one point higher than their lowest, so should be getting their internal score soon.
p.s. I apped in branch, California
EX for me, which I guess tells us that it varies! This was in MA.
EX for me too. Also, you can just call the UW after you apply and verify that you were being considered for Cash +. I called, and didn't qualify for Cash + and they were trying to give me Cash Rewards. The UW said he could cancel the app right there, and that's what I did. No waiting for the card, no new TL on my CR, just the inq.
I think the issue is with US Bank. A few months ago, I applied for the cash perks + and was denied for too many inquiries. I reconned and explained the inquiries and the representative, who was very nice, said he saw I was a good customer and had other cards with them. He said I was approved and he stated he "would get his supervisor to overturn the denial". A week later, I got another letter stating I was denied for too many inquiries.
i honestly think their is another layer of UW's above the frontline people, that really don't care what you're told on the phone.
a version of this May have happened to you. You may have been downgraded at a final review.
just something to think about

Hey Buddy, You could have always upgraded at a later date. Why did you turn it down?
