I figured I should follow the herd and lust after the CSR. I'm like infinity/24, so not even worth me applying. DW is 5/24 now, but will be 4/24, 3/24 and 2/24 in January, Febrary and March respectively, unless something really juicy comes along. So I figure she'll apply for the CSR somewhere in there.
She currently has three Chase cards: a Freedom which is used for the quarterly categories, a Chase Sapphire which she opened in 3/2012 for the $250 bonus, spent up and then sockdrawered, and a Chase Ink which she opened as Ink Plus in 5/2014 for the $500 bonus, spent up and then sockdrawered, then converted to Ink (no annual fee) and stuck back in the SD. She's also had three Chase cards now closed: a CSP opened 12/2014 (bonus then SD then closed before AF), a United opened 1/13 (bonus then SD then closed before AF) and another Sapphire opened and closed around 2010.
DW has about 24k URP banked. She could just cash those out now, but if she's going to be getting the CSR, she could potentially make more out of those points than 1¢ per point.
OTOH, I keep hearing horror stories about people who get that "one more" Chase card and then shortly thereafter without warning Chase shuts down all their accounts and they forfeit any outstanding rewards. I don't *think* that's likely with DW; while she's certainly done more churning than the average consumer, she's nothing compared with the heavy hitters. But it's still a possibility.
So the question is, is it worth risking $240 certain cash in the unlikely event that Chase shuts her down, for the potential gain of 12k URP once she has the CSR?
Thoughts?
Chris.
