Effective 11/1/19: Provides coverage for eligible damage or theft of your cellular wireless telephone.
To be eligible for the benefit, you must charge your monthly cell phone bill to your covered card. You are eligible for secondary coverage the first day of the calendar month following the payment of your cell phone bill to the covered card. Provides supplemental coverage for eligible damage to, or theft of your cellular wireless telephone.  The maximum liability is $600 per claim and $1,000 per Covered Card per 12 month period. Each claim is subject to a $25 deductible. Secondary coverage is limited to two (2) claims per Covered Card per 12 month period.  For complete terms and conditions, you can view your Guide to Benefits.

Re: Cell Phone Protection?

Thanks for posting those changes, I have the Uber card and didn't know about this. I don't think the wording has changed that much except to change it to "secondary" insurance. Maybe this is in hopes of being used after a homeowners or auto policy that covers theft?

I think the coverage limits and deductible are still the same.

I use this card to pay for one cell phone bill, but after reading the policy over I think it is excluded because it is technically a pre-paid plan with AT&T. The phone was bought outright and the bill is auto-paid each month, but if I just don't pay the bill it shuts off, there is no contract and I pay each month for the coming months usage. I might need to call and verify if it's actually covered, definitely don't want to find out the hard way...

I'm so careful with cell phones that I've never had a cell insurance plan nor do I even have a screen protector on the face. I can count on 1 hand in the 20 years I had a cell phone how many times I dropped my phone. Last year I dropped it twice in the same year lol. I've never broken a phone, so coverage isn't paramount for me. But it's there if I need it.

I'll scrap it for a few months over special offers to use a card to get $10 off my bill. Amex and DISCO have these offers from time to time and I take advantage of those over cell insurance then switch back to Propel when those offers expire.

Re: Cell Phone Protection?

I actually had to use the Uber cell phone insurance a few months ago for my daughter's phone.  It was a far better experience than I expected, and the claim was paid within a week (after uploading all the documents requested).  The caveat is that you have to basically pay the cell phone bill for 2 months before making the claim or having the damage/loss occur.  Luckily, we had paid 3 months or so prior to the damage occurring, but it had me sweating a bit.  Highly recommend the Uber route since that seems available to you already.

With Propel, your coverage starts the first of the month after paying your bill. If you pay the bill today with your Propel card, coverage begins November 1. It will be extended for December if you pay your bill with the card next month.

And apparently the same for Uber,  so I paid for last month in hopes my new shiny devices will be covered from Nov 1.

Re: Cell Phone Protection?

Make sure you read the terms and conditions of any plan.  They do all have their stipulations and limitations.  For example, how much you can be reimbursed or if they cover cosmetic-only damage (which is the most likely outcome) versus the damage that makes it unservicable.

So here's my cellphone protection plan ... lol  Smiley Tongue

I'll save myself a monthly fee or expecting a credit card to not nerf those benefits or having to keep my billing on it to maintain coverage.

Otter Box

*I can't tell you how many times I have had minor drops with my phone and have never broken one yet.  Replaced a few screen protectors but everytime I got a phone back out of my Otterbox case, it looked brand new.
