No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
This is a very niche request, hopefully some people can provide insight. I am a Canadian residing in Canada (hence the name), with no US work or study visas, no ITIN, no SSN. I would like to get a Chase Freedom if at all possible, from a US border town in WA most likely.
I currently have:
Banner Bank TruRewards Mastercard, $5k limit (just under 1 year)
TD Bank NA Aeroplan Visa Signature, $5k limit (about 7 months)
Bank of America Better Balance, $3k limit (about 3 months)
AAoA about 7 months. Maximum 3 credit hits.
Can't buy credit score from myfico as I do not have a SSN. BofA rep in branch told me my Experian score was 720 or thereabouts when I applied though.
Any other non-resident aliens able to give some insight?
Pretty sure you need a SSN/ITIN for a US credit card...? (as it always asks for one on apps) Correct me if I'm wrong..

Under the Patriot Act you have to provide identifying information such as your SSN or ITIN. I'm afraid you will not be eligible to apply for US cards.
Jace, I ALREADY HAVE 3 US cards, so saying I'm not eligible to apply is a bit.... unfounded? None of the 3 banks below had any problems with Canadians, and in Banner Bank's case, they strongly encourage it. The Bank of America rep in Washington was even surprised that i had instant approval
Or are you saying these 3 cards in my possession are not US cards?

I am looking for feedback from people who have gone through the process with Chase, or at least made the attempt.
I have read the feedback from students who have deposited 10k at Chase, and I may go that route if need be - but the closest branch is an hour's drive away so I would like to go in prepared.
As I stated in my original post:

His main question is about Chase not his eligiblity with us cards.
I understand op. But many years ago a few banks mainly BOA allowed anyone to apply for their cards. as long as you have some form of ID Including Passports of Orgin. Hence canadians can apply. It is correct that patriot act say you must identify yourself. But it does not say it has to be American ID. any Passport of the world is more than enough. I suspect since chase is not on that Global acceptance list. it will be kind of hard for you. Your best bet without a SSn is to become authorized user of someone else. Although they ask for ssn even for Au. i can easily be bypassed by calling Customer Service and explaining you are a NRA. Non resident Alien. I hope this helps. But applying outright with chase just wont work in this case. Good luck.

Hey canadian, I apologize, by no means I said that they are not US cards. My comment is based on the fact that after 2001 US law requires applicants to provide a SSN or ITIN on their applications. Chase applications require a SSN for the application to be submitted. I'm not sure how BoA, TD, and Banner go around this.

Okay, so let's start with these. How did you apply for these cards? Online applications usually require your SSN (my bf just applied for and got a BofA Cash Rewards, and he was requried to enter his SSN in the online application). So how did you manage to apply without it? By phone? Paper app? In branch?
Second, US cards usually also require a US billing address. Do these 3 cards of yours have billing addresses in the US? If so, is it in Washington (you seem to be saying you live on the border)?
Lastly, if these banks were able to approve your application, it is more than likely that you already have a taxpayer ID in the US, even if you don't know what it is. Call these other banks and ask what unique identifier they used to verify or create your identity.
