Chances of approval w/ CU?

My question is, what are the chances of CC approval w/ our CU. I know they're a little more linient (sp?) than other CC companies. We currently have a $500 loan with our CU, it's based on direct deposit not credit, basically if you get direct deposit and you have been at your job for 6 consecutive months they'll give you the loan. We have 6 months to pay it back it will probably be paid quicker than that (only $15 in interest thought that was awesome and really helped with the $430 unexpected car problem we had to fix). After paying that I was thinking about having my husband app for their platinum visa CC. He was approved for cap 1 secured w/ $99 deposit, $200 CL, Fingerhut fresh start $230 limit which has been completed and we're now waiting on the start of the revolving FH acct which i've been told takes one billing cycle to kick in. He has a collection we're paying this week and they've agreed to delete, and a collection aging off his report next month, which will only leave a repo on his CR from 2008 (we cant afford to pay it). Do CU just run your credit like other CC companies and just say yes or no? Or will they actually take the time to discuss your CR with you and possibly approve you for a small limit where other companies wouldnt even give you the time of day? Thanks in advance for any help! (his EQ fico is 584, down from 612 when his old FP card reported $0 and closed Smiley Sad )

Re: Chances of approval w/ CU?

I would definitely talk to a CU rep, and see what they're willing to do for you. My CU was very good to me - they gave me a Visa  with a non-secured $500 limit (when I started rebuilding over a year ago), and I was glad to get it. I had a previous short-term loan with them, that was paid on time. I called them about not receiving my quarterly credit score letter, and the conversation went in another direction - they offered me the opportunity to apply for a card, and worked to get me approved. I would say CUs in general are much more willing to discuss your situation and work with you, when the big banks won't bother with you - based on my own personal experience and the experience of others I know.

Yes, CUs do pull credit reports, just like the credit card company banks. Good luck!
