Are there any special considerations that must be met, or is it just at the whim of Capital One? Do they consider a PC change to be like a CLI whereas if you just had a CLI you arent eligible for a PC change until 6 months after a recent CLI? I ask because my QS1 is a year and a half old, yet online chat would not allow me to PC to a QS.

I thought one of the considerations was that you have to have a minimum CL of $3K to switch to a regular QS but I ve read posts that folks have been able product change with a lower limit.

AFAIK, you need a CL of $3K or up to PC to the QS.  However, people can be approved for less that that if they app.

Re: Changing a Quicksilver one to a Quicksilver

Thursday after my failure with chat, I messaged Cap 1 via Facebook.  I explained my situation and they asked if I could be contacted via TTY. I stated I used internet relay to make calls and asked if they could email me or thru the document option on my account log in. Never heard back. Well, this morning  I checked my account and saw they reimbursed my annual fee. Not sure what that means, if they just waived it and reimbursed or waived it and converted my card.

Well, another update. I just checked the Cap 1 pre approval page. Haven't been getting anything, until this morning. They're showing solid pre approval for the Venture at 18% and the Quicksilver at 17%.

You're at the hands of whomever handles your request. Keep trying and you'll breakthrough and get it converted in some shape, way, or form. I tried all last year. Took 4 chats, 2 EOs, and a few calls before I finally "won". Now I have a QS1 with no annual fee Lol

That's great news!

As a data point, I have a nine year old Quicksilver One MasterCard that they absolutely refuse to PC to a Quicksilver.  My credit line is $3900, and each time I ask I get the same answer, "There are no offers currently available on this account".  FWIW, Capital One seems to be consistent (at least with me) with their answers on various issues between chat and phone, so I doubt you'd have better luck using the phone in your case anyway.  Also, when I ask if there will ever be an offer, both phone and chat reps simply reply that I should keep checking back (in other words, they have no idea).

To get around this nonsense, I checked for pre-qualified offers (like you did) and I was also pre-qualed for QS and Venture.  Now I have a Quicksilver Visa Signature, and if Capital One is unable to PC my QS1 before the fee is due in July I'll simply roll the credit line into the newer card, easy-peasy.  Smiley Happy

If I had known what I know now, I would have gone for the Venture instead since it usually gives a more generous starting credit line, and can usually be changed to a Quicksilver after the first year anyway (for me, the Venture and Quicksilver APRs are pre-qual'd as the same).

Re: Changing a Quicksilver one to a Quicksilver

Here's what happened with my QS1 to QS product change -

Got the chard in August of 2014 - $300 limit (MasterCard)

Credit Steps CLI to $2300 in February 2015

Requested CLI in August 2015 and moved up to $6300

A few days after I received my CLI, I started an online chat and asked if I could do a PC from the QS1 to the standard QS - I also asked if it would be a WMC.

He told me that I was approved for the PC to the standard QS and since my AF had already hit that I would get that refunded (which I saw the next day), and that I would no longer be charged an anual fee.  In passing said that it would indeed become a World MasterCard.

About a week later, Got my new card, same account number. WMC logo and everything.

Re: Changing a Quicksilver one to a Quicksilver

Well, this is sort my plan I guess. I have 2 QS1's. My oldest one is going to be 6 months post CLI in May. The newer one will be 6 months old, also in May. By the end of this month, I'll have knocked my current balances on other cards down by $1700 and total utilization will be just below 2%. My Amazon store card will be the only thing reporting a balance at around $300. According to the simulator all scores will be 720+ with TU around 780. . I think I'm going to app for the Venture and Quicksilver. If I get both, which I'm thinking I will, I will try to combine the 2 QS1s convert to QS and combine them with the new QS. Not sure if that's doable or not though.

Sounds like a good plan to me!

Something to consider... be sure to check for a CLI on each card before combining, since the combination itself can 'count' as a CLI for the card you keep (getting a CLI on either (or both) accounts won't impact the combining).

I'm timing my own 'combination' to take place right after my next CLIs, and just before the AF is due on the QS1.  Timing is everything!  Smiley Very Happy

Re: Changing a Quicksilver one to a Quicksilver

Well, my impatience got the best of me once again. I went ahead and applied. It said "Congratulations, you were approved. Your new card should arrive in 7-10 days." However, no mention of starting limit.?.?

Congrats on the new approval!

When I got my QS last year it told me the credit line and APR on the approval screen, but perhaps that's changed.  No worries, you'll have all the information soon enough.

Again, congrats!

(Side note:  For new accounts, many folks (including myself) were able to get our first CLI after the third statement.  Mark your calendar!)  Smiley Wink
