Changing statement date without notice

I have had a RZMC, issued by HSBC, since 2007.  Every three months or so I charge something small then PIF before the statement date which has been on the 20th since . . . forever.  This week I used the card for a small purchase.  I immedietely went to my bank bill pay and sent the balance.  Today, I checked my RZMC account online and it is showing a statement balance.  The statement was cut on the 9th, the same days my payment was received.

Now, I think that CCC's probably have the right to change statement dates anytime they want to but aren't they required to notify the customer in advance?  The only communication I've had from them recently was that I was being upgraded to "Platinum" status, whatever that means.

Re: Changing statement date without notice

I don't think they have to tell their customers about a change in the statement date. In my experience when I worked in BOA's CC dept, they used to change customers statement date, which in turn changed their due date all the time. Customers who weren't concerned about paying the bill of before the statement cuts would regularly call in because they were late because BOA changed their date that had been the same for YEARS with no notification. The only customers that would call were the ones paying down a balance and they would usually lose a promotional rate because of it. I always felt that it was specifically designed to acquire fees from customers and force them to pay a higher rate. That's why I will never do business with BOA.

I think you can call and complain because they are not suppose to change it by more than a few days, or you can fight it, hsbc does this to me once in a while they arent a very good bank though

call and ask why they changed it

I believe the new laws make it so they cannot change the date, or only by one or two days.. or must tell you

this is onetime event to complain to the news laws which now require your due date be the same day ever month. on my card that statement was 6th most months thee due date 31th this it's 3rd and will be from now on at a minimum banks had a 20 grace period will have to move it a day

Re: Changing statement date without notice

Several of my cards and my HELOC have changed their statement dates, but the payment due dates have remained the same.  The reason for the changed statement date is because they needed to come into compliance with the new credit card law, which requires statements to be mailed at least 21 days before the payment due date.

I don't think the CCCs are required to notify people of a changed statement date.  For the majority of CC users, the key date is when their payment is due, and that cannot be changed according to the new law.

A little more information, if you're concerned for when they report to the CRA, the RZMC always reports on the final day of the month.  This is what I like about it with the ease of managing the balance which gets reported.
