Charge and transfer for points? Is this ok?

i am making a big purchase 10k.

 

Would it be ok to charge 10k on a Discover card for the points and then quickly transfer the balance to my Citi Simplicity card which is new (therefore zero cost to transfer and 0% apr for 18 months)....will Discover frown on this or is it ok?

yes you can do that...discover has know way of knowing that its going to be a balance transfer from your citi card...i have done it before..

Yeah, that's totally fine. In Discover's eyes they're getting their money back. That's all banks care about

Why would they?  A BT is a payment as far as they're concerned.  Make sure you consider utilization on the card you're BT'ing to as well as any fees.
