Thanks for the replies everyone.
I also have success with asking BofA to change a Cash Rewards VISA to a World MC just by calling and asking. I guess Chase sounds unlikely but you never know until you try so I wil probably call them at some point and ask. Although, perhaps it's pointless since those cards don't have chip+PIN anyway and so probably can't be used in many countries aside from Canada. Well, if I do call to ask I'll update this thread.
Cheers.

The Cash Rewards is a core BOA product so it's really up their discretion if they want to allow network changes. With something like the Amazon Visa, Chase is, I assume, totally bound by an agreement with Amazon which in all likelihood prevents changes such as network or product type changes.
No harm in asking, just keep expectations low.

Thanks, that totally makes sense. I don't think I'll call after all.

@Anonymous wrote:From what I understand this is not possible from any creditors, not just Chase. Even from creditors like Capital One that offer both Visa and MC branded cards, if you open a card that's a MC they will tell you that it can not be switched or converted to a Visa; however it is opened is how it will be forever on that account.
Bank of America and Navy are the two that will allow you to switch networks. I have done it with both.
Good to know that there are exceptions. Did they simply replace the card or did it result in a new account being opened?
Just a network change...with BoA it took 3ish weeks and the new card came with the old history attached. Navy is the same thing but only a couple days. Only pitfall with Navy is that you have to clear your rewards or you will lose them. BoA stayed as is with the network switch.
