Nah no one should move spend to keep a CL and that doesnt appear to be the case needed. They are the ones that hand out those big limits such as 20-35k limits, etc.. They know it isnt all going to be used and also used as a big buffer for utilization most of the time. As mentioned they are just withdrawling their risk. Say 25-50% of the people call that the other 25-50% that dont call is a huge risk taken off the table for them. My parents whom have excellent credit got a CLD back during the 2008 crisis of half their limit as an AU on that card to this day appears they never called as limit showed 20k -> 10k. They are retired now and can care less for most part about credit although they certainly still have it. Only reason I will be calling if i do get the letter is the CSR is meant to be a travel card and my high balance has been 9k i believe on it for a reporting period if I got cut to 10 or 12k or whatever I woud feel a bit crowded and dont want to have to call in the future and take hps to get my CL back so only makes sense for me to nip if in the rear end before it happens if I am to get a letter this time otherwise the CSR in the future would kinda be a pointless card at a 10-12k limit if used for a primary card for an overseas visit to other countries, etc. Same goes for marriott card as easily could charge 7-10k in hotel stays on a 14 days type trip depending on the hotel of course.

I understand that, but after looking at my spending on CSR, I realized most of it happened prior to AR.
I spent more on AR in the first three months than CSR in the entire year.
So, if I get CLD letter, it is what it is, its painfully obvious to me the only reason I have it is bumload of unused URs.
When they are gone, I will reevaluate.
Besides, mine is only $16,7000.00, they cannot even take 50%, unless they start issuing pretend visa infinite cards.
Freedom, they can drop it to $5550, and I'd still be using less than 1%.
Whatever I'm spending, it's not even drop in their bucket. Whatever they take from me, not a drop in my bucket, either. That's a beautiful and liberating realization.
At best, I'm indifferent.
@KandyKane wrote:dssgaffler: That sounded quite simple. Which number did she call--the one on the letter or on the credit card itself? (I'm still trying to get a handle on how this forum works. When Iast checked it didn't appear under your reply to me).
Thank you (and everyone) for the responses to my questions. This is a great forum.
The only number provided on the letter was the exact same number for US customers on the back of her card - 1-800-524-3880.
Now I see what happened--looking at the top of the letter I forgot to put my reading glasses on so the number looked different. Wish me luck; I am calling tomorrow. Will report on what happens. Goodnight, folks!
Well, this was fun. I called around 10 AM, had to go through a whole menu and just held on until a human came on line. He [Mod cut: Remember the 5 Things We Don't Talk About. - KiB] but that was not the problem. There was horrible static and I could barely make out anything he was saying. Finally I told him I will wait a bit and try later, which with the bad connection is my only option. As if my nerves weren't bad enough
If not for bad luck, I would have no luck at all. Will keep trying again in a bit. Seems like most here have gotten straight through.

Consider trying a secure message in your Chase account.
Keep it short... probably reference pandemic impacting spending.
Got the identical letter as the original post for my Sapphire Preferred. Mild suprise. $23.7K down to $11.8K
I reviewed my 2019 spend = 9 swipes for a total of well under 300 bucks. PIF always, Fico bounces around 800
HA, a couple of car rentals and a few times I mistakenly pulled the card for a small item. (I stopped using Chase other than car rentals because of [Mod cut - Plenty of places on the internet to discuss this; this is not one of them. - KiB]).
Anyway, 2020 pacing even less spend.
Truly, can't blame them for the CL cut, due to my (non)use. But this morning I called just to see what they said. They basically apologized for letter and said my CL won't be cut.
I'm with others on this thread that say Chase is likely trying to lower exposure and one way is to lower lines on folks that either don't pay attention or don't care. I'm sure cummulative it adds up.
**GLAD i saw this thread, I think I would have got irritated at them if I didn't realize I was just one of MANY who got this letter.

Out of curiosity, what is the highest balance you've ever reported on the card?
@Anonymous wrote:Out of curiosity, what is the highest balance you've ever reported on the card?
Probably less than a hundred bucks. Never use the card except for occassional car rental and those are usually small amounts (long car rentals put on the AMEX). Total charges 2019 aprox 250bucks with 9 swipes. 2020 probably be less. my least swiped card due to [Mod cut - Plenty of places on the internet to discuss this; this is not one of them. - KiB].

Ok. Thanks. Just wondering if they might take high balance into account when cutting CLs. No way to know for sure, maybe they do or maybe they just look at what have you done for me lately (last 12 mos).
