Chase - CLI?

Hi all - I'm new to the boards and am addict reading daily.  First question:

I have had a Chase Rewards Plus Card with a $200 CL for over 2 years.  It has a 19.99% APR.  When I got the card, my scores were in the mid 500 range and now my scores are TU 651 and EQ 662. No idea on current EX score.

Any idea why Chase hasn't increased my limit?  I pay on time every month.  I asked for an increase about 8 months into having the card and was denied.  I'm wondering if I should close the card.  I keep a low balance on it.

EQ 11/2007:  554  EQ on 7/21/08:  662
TU 4/2008:  629 TU on 7/17/08:  651

Goal:  700 ASAP.

Re: Chase - CLI?

I think you need to call them and ask is it possible for you to ever get a CLI on this card.  I remember reading not long ago about a poster who had the same card and limit.  He was told that he would not be able to go higher than 200 dollars on that particular card. But then again, everybody's circumstances may be different.  You should check this out.

Re: Chase - CLI?

I just called and they did a hard credit pull and was denied any increase.  I'm definitely cancelling once I get the reason letter why I was denied.  So disappointing considering I have other cc's with better CLs who proactively give me increases.

Re: Chase - CLI?

Hang in there.  If the card is not meeting your needs with such a low limit, then put it out to pasture once it has be paid off completely.  Will getting rid of the card affect your utilization much??

Re: Chase - CLI?

yeah, I requested a CLI with Chase, they harded my TU and it was declined. It was also declined on recon. this is annoying because they said I had 43% utilization, which is ... completely off base.

I have $4,000 of balances. I have $3800 + $3000 + $3000 + $3560 + $5000 available credit. Somewhat over $18,000. I understand reporting may be slightly inaccurate. but to me there's a really big difference when the reported utilization is twice as much as the actual utilization. I find that to be a fairly large discrepancy so I'm paying down both of my balance and waiting for my report to update. and i wasted a hard inquiry in the meantime. wonderful.

I would cancel this card altogether but I have a short credit history (two oldest tradelines are 3 years) that will grow. and i'd like many accounts with a high average age and this would be one of them. i canceled it originally when they wouldn't product change my account but then i re-opened it so I would retain the history. They gave me a different product change (although still not what I wanted) so I'll wait for them to auto-CLI me (which I hope they do) and ask for the change in a year or so, when my history has grown significantly and AAoA is better.
