Hi Guys,
I'm current Chase Sapphire Banking Customer and I just got approved for CSP on NOV 16 with a 7000 CL by a pre-qualified offer with 21.41% APR. However, I'm more interested in CSR card. Is there any way may help?
I think there are 2 strategies:
[1] Choose not to open (activate) the CSP, give up its Sign Up Bonus, and downgrade it to CFU or Freedom. Then Re-Apply for the CSR card;
[2] Open CSP and try to apply CFU and Freedom after getting the SUB of CSP. Then, wait for 1 year to upgrade it to CSR.
Credit History: 3 Months
Chase 5/24 Status: 3/24
Other Card:
1) BOA123, 1000 CL
2) AMEX Marriott Brilliant, 3100 CL
Score:
EX: 702, TU: 690, EQ: Unknown
CSR will need a 10k cl, you would be better off wait to upgrade.
CSP has better SUB anyway. Just save sub until you get CSR.

I am not sure that #1 is plausible. I would simply earn the SUB on CSP now, use it over the next year, then ask for a CLI if you are not given one automatically to bring it above $10,000, and product change your card to the CSR. Based upon your other credit lines, and your starting line on the CSP, it is doubtful that you would have been approved for the CSR. Many of us started our CSR journey with the CSP.
Any Freedom or Freedom Unlimited activity would have no bearing on this, but I would wait a while before applying for either one.
A big thank you to your suggestion. Then I will keep my CSP and wait for the upgrade.
Is 2-month waiting enough for applying my next Chase Card? I would like to finish 5/24 before turning to another AMEX.
Also, will Chase do an automatic CLI if I alway pay in full?
Thank you for your suggention. I will keep my CSP then.

I would wait at least 3 months, preferably 6 months. Keep in mind that Amex generally takes 2 statements to report so in theory you are probably safe to apply for an American Express card a month or so prior to another Chase card. Chase auto-CLIs are not very common, but if you are putting significant spend through the card, your credit profile is good, and you are paying in full each month, they are more likely to happen. Worst case, I would plan on taking a HP to do a CLI request in about a year before asking to PC to CSR.
Gotcha! Thank you so much for your help!

I agree with this advice. If you only have a 3-month credit history and you already have a CSP and Chase Sapphire banking, as well as a BofA Cash Rewards (1-2-3??), then you are doing quite well already!! Congrats!! Keep the CSP and PC it to the CSR in a year or so. Chase will give CLIs if you not only use the card regularly and PIF, but also if you use the majority of your credit line. Use it as much as possible if you want to optimize the growth of CL. Also, Chase is conservative so I suggest you wait at least three months to six months with a thin file before applying for another card. They are known to get anxious if thin files make too many moves too quickly. Take it easy and enjoy your early success!
Of course.
I moved to US in July 2019 and decided to start building my credit file. However, at that time, I didn't have a SSN. Then, I went to BOA and asked a banker can I open a Checking account. The banker was very nice, after setting up my checking account, she asked me whether I wanted a credit card and told me that I could apply for a credit card without a social. In this way, I got my first credit card from BOA with 1000 CL.
During July, and August, I kept my balance at 1% of my total CL before the closing date, and pay off the 1% after the closing date. Since I had a trip to California in Oct, I planed to apply for a hotel card. AMEX allows application without a SSN, so I applied the AMEX Marriott Card. Not suprise, I didn't get instant approval. After calling AMEX reconsideration line and provide my VISA number, I got approved with 3100 CL and the highest APR due to thin credit file.
In Oct and Nov, I still kept my statement balance at 1% and PIF. Also, I started relationship with Chase during my trip to California. Then I got my social in late October. After updating my social security number to Chase, AMEX and BOA, I checked my credit score and found that I got 700+ score with Experian and 695 with TransUnion (Since there were 2 more HP from BOA on TU report).
On this Friday, what suprised me was that there was a green star on my Chase online banking. I got prequalified offer for Chase CSP with fixed APR of 21.41%. I dicided to use that offer without hesitation. I was told "We have received your request for a Chase credit card. We'll let you know our decision as soon as possible." I called Chase recon on Saturday, and they verifid my ssn, address, account information... and finally I got apporved for CSP with 7000 CL.
