Chase Freedom Card

I'm not sure, but I may have made a mistake.  I called up Chase and asked if DW could switch from a regualr card to the Freedom card.  They said no problem, but the account number would change.  I'm thinking that won't be a big deal.  It is her only CC account, but at just three years old it's not the end of the world.  My bigger concern is the CL. She had a CL of $13,000 on the old card that was great for keeping our utility down; we spend $800 to $1000 a month and PIF (whcih is why I thought the cash rewards would be worth the switch).  Now I'm concerned because I forgot to ask about the CL on the Freedom card.  Do you think they will keep the limit the same?  Anyone else make a switch like this?  I know the interest rate will be going up from 10.24 to 17.49, but since we PIF each month I wasn't too concerned about it.

Thanks,
krystofur

Re: Chase Freedom Card

I changed my Chase Visa to a Chase Freedom Visa in August (or September?).  My credit limit and history remained unchanged.   I guess I was lucky since they also didn't change my account number or APR on the account.

Re: Chase Freedom Card

wow... 17.49%.  Our APR went down when we switched to Freedom card. Once you get the new card, call the backdoor number and tell them you have been long time customer you want the best rate on the freedom card.  Go to Chase.com and act like you are going to apply for the Freedom card and you can see the apr range the card has

I didn't want to mention it in my previous post, but that is a very high APR.  My Chase account is somewhat older (opened in 3/1986).  However, my Chase Freedom Visa's APR is PRIME+0.49 or currently, 7.74%.  Although you did mention that you PIF, you might want to try negotiating a better rate at some point.

Re: Chase Freedom Card

I had a United frequent flyer card (Chase) and switched to Chase Freedom.  I keep seeing waves wash over sand.  Anyway, I kept the original account opening date and history, the CL was at least as high as it was on the old card (probably higher, I just don't remember) and they automatically raised the CL after a few months.

krystofur,

Did you happen to ask the Chase representative if the new card is a Chase Freedom Signature card?

Re: Chase Freedom Card

Thanks for all the replies.  Yeah, I know the APR is way too high.  My wife and I have FICO's in the 780 to 820 range but we still don't seem to have good luck with rates.  I guess I'm not demanding enough.  Even though we PIF each month we'll be requesting a lower rate sometime in the near future.  I'll just have to be persistant.  I was having a few communication problems with the Customer Service Rep and I didn't want to compound things by asking about the APR last night.

About the signature card, that's what I asked for, maybe that was a mistake.  I asked for the "Chase Freedom Signature Visa" card and the Rep kept repeating back to me "Freedom Card with Points".  I was just going by the card as I saw it on the website, I didn't see a simple "Chase Freedom Card", and I kept steering the Rep back to the Signature card becasue she said the "Freedom Card with Points" had an annual fee (and she couldn't or wouldn't wave it).  Is there something special about the "signature" card?

I went online today and saw that the account I was used to seeing has a new Freedom Rewards section, the CL is the same and the new higher APR is indicated.  Maybe they left the card number the same, they only display the last four, and they haven't changed yet.

Thanks again,
krystofur
