So, I'm in the Garden, and I decided to recon Chase Freedom just to see. I used the recon number on the backdoor list. The lady was tough and like a stone wall at first, but I softened her up with my deliberately quiet, respectful, monotonous voice. After asking for a reconsideration, she threw the "we denied you for all these good reasons" brick, I broke it up and built her a pretty little house with it, and carefully, but good-naturedly, answered her every question with one or two more details than she asked for. She approved the reconsideration after about 15 minutes discussing inquiries and new accounts. She required my SSA card to prove my social, as well as my vehicle registration to prove my address. I faxed it in, and was told that it takes 7-14 days to review faxes.
Guess I'll wait. I tried calling back a few hours later to see whether they reviewed the faxes, and was greeted with a slightly warning tone of, "You called earlier today and spoke with another representative." But the lady sweetened up when I told her I was told to check back to ensure the faxes were received. She gave me the same 7-14 day processing time.
Will update you all next week.
Has anyone else had to fax in anything for a Chase Freedom recon?
Good luck... keeping my fingers crossed for you... ![]()
@Anonymous
Thanks, buddy.

This happened to me. Same timeline, same faxes and I was finally approved after 3 weeks. I'm going to take the leap and congratulate you right now. Congrats! :-)
Thanks. Glad I'm not the only one. What CL did you get? Not that I'm expecting mine to be the same. Just curious.
After my recon, I was told to call Verifications Dept. I was prepared to be asked those 'in 2006, you may have opened a CL with 1 of these lenders' but instead they asked me questions about my auto loan with them. Ie last payment made, approx balance etc. I assume I didn't have to fax because of my relationship.
Sounds to me like they are doing id checks on a lot of their successful recons.
Good luck!

Thanks. They had questions about my auto loan, too. But my auto loan is not with them. I wonder if they have something against this showing up on CR. I'm also wondering whether the ID checks are becoming standard and if we'll see more of them. Unless there is just some hidden criteria, like auto loans, that sends up a flag to them. Hmm.

Exact same scenario, except I got disconnected twice while going through the verification process. After the third time on hold I was advised that a letter had been sent out requesting information that would have to be faxed back. I still don't know what they want faxed back. I really don't take stress that well ![]()
Good luck, got my fingers crossed for both you and I. BTW, when I reconned she did say that my CL would be $500, but that I would be able to have it increased at a later time.
Please update this thread when you find out what they require you to send. What did they point out to you on your CR? Don't tell me they picked on your AL, too...
UGH! So, I called again and spoke to the Verifications Department after been transfered twice. I guess I am OCD ![]()
To summarize my experience: for those applications that are not instantly approved - like us - a more complex approval process is in place to verify our identity. A letter/form is been mailed. I need to fill out and return via fax. The information I provide on the form (SS#, DOB, Name, Address) will then be entered into a system that is forwarded directly to the social security office to be verified. It then takes 24-48 hours from when they receive my fax to complete the verification, NOT THE APPROVAL process. Once verification is complete, then credit card processing picks at it some more and hopefully approves it! In other words 2-3 weeks. Hope this helps.
So now, I guess we're leaning on MovingForward_2012's good fortune. I still have my positive attitude.
