Re: Chase Freedom/Flex 2nd Quarter Categories

Would "home improvement" include Ikea?  I happen to be doing some interior planning with the wife as I see this.

Most likely not, even if you are doing something like a kitchen remodel.  IKEA will usually fall under furniture or home furnishings.  The FAQ with merchants has not been updated yet for Q2, but home improvement will usually only be Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, local hardware stores, etc.

Re: Chase Freedom/Flex 2nd Quarter Categories

I get my gas at Costco so the gas category isn't useful to me since Costco doesn't accept MC. Home improvement isn't a useful category for me either. It looks like I'll be primarily using my CFF for dining during the next quarter.

Not surprised that it isn't grocery given the 5%/$12k/12mon grocery sign up offer on Flex. Not expecting grocery as Freedom category this year.  Still, bummer having the same category as Discover, especially when I'm still burning down gas gift cards bought last year during my wife's cash back match year.

This works well for me. We are buying a new ( to us ) house so likely to be visting Lowes and Home Depot in Q2 frequently.

CSR with Groceries through April 30 is still getting a lot of use there.

I wonder if my Platinum or another AMEX will get a Lowes extra earning offer? The PayPal $30 I've used the last two months through the Shell app for Platinum spend. Not actually spending a whole lot on gasoline lately, so not really a significant interest in that.

Bummer... I haven't used my Discover this quarter since I am still in the 5% cashback for groceries on my CFU. I will be switching Netflix over to my Discover next month, but I guess that will be all it gets for another quarter. I only go through a tank of gas every 3 weeks or so, so I will be putting the 5% on my CF.

Re: Chase Freedom/Flex 2nd Quarter Categories

Last year I used my Chase Freedom card one time at Crate & Barrel, and I was surprised when the purchase was coded online as "Home Improvement" just like any purchases I make at the local hardware store. Unfortunately, Home Improvement wasn't the 5% category for that particular quarter, so I only got the standard 1% for that C&B spend.

I'll try another purchase at C&B for this upcoming quarter, to see if 5% comes through. If so, I'll report back. Think I'll try The Container Store, too.
